Do checks equal tests?

The wording in the rules is very confusing and on top of that whoever writes for battlescribe likes to interchange their usage of each (aka the book will say test and battlescribe will say check).

Had it come up a bit in my last game with my hemlock's pod as it only applies to "tests" and death is not enough causes a "check".

They're the same thing. IE: An initiative test is the same as an initiative check.

See its things like this:

Check VS Test 018

So why call half of them tests and the last one a check?

Just doesnt make sense.  Drives me crazy.  Like calling a tissue a kleenex when its not that brand.

Anyways Ive been playing that my hemlock on -2 leadership on TESTS. Not check.

You are sure though right?  Just seems so weird that that would specifically say moral checks instead of including it in the rest.  Then in other parts, say a unit must take a moral test.

Is there a page or something I can confirm it, at least somewhere I can use to tell people that tests are the same as checks?

Probably a bit much to expect consistency from GW but it's kind of explained in the rules:

The Rules wrote:
Morale represents the grit, determination, or (sometimes) plain stupidity of warriors in action. Morale checks are a specific kind of Leadership test. Like all other Leadership-based tests, Morale checks (also sometimes called Morale tests)

Actually, that works. Thanks guys.

Basically when told to check it means take a test in order to see, aka to check your current leadership, take a test.

I know it's probably not a good thing for rules writing, but people who've been trained in literary techniques are actually encouraged to choose synonyms when they would otherwise be reprinting the same word over and over again in a paragraph, work of writing, or book.

I'd venture that quite a few writers for GW have had formal literary training, and thus, have some habits derived from said training.

Yeah, you would just think after so many years they would have the formula down...

Pages:

0-50: fluff (Synonyms ok)

50-80 pictures (Synonyms ok)

80-110 Models and their rules (get this stuff right or you will have thousands of nerds emailing you asking questions and cause trouble for tournament officials making it more trouble to run your product as an event)

110-150 literally just summarize the above.

In fact if I remember right, manual writing is a completely different type of writing. They just need someone up in there proof reading stuff. It just seems unprofessional to let a product out and then just say its up to the player to settle the rules. Otherwise, I am just paying for plastic.

I mean there is a huge different between turn and player turn, or model and unit etc... and its not like codex's come out every week. Takes me an hour or two, more or less depending on how much I look at the pictures, to read through a codex. Blows my mind that someone at GW cant do this a couple times in the months it takes to develop this stuff.

Hell even something being singular or plural can make all the difference when interpreting the rules.

But hey, its not the end of the world, just annoys me more then most I guess.

No wonder they say the intended demographic is children... Children dont care about the rules >.<

Yeah, it seems like you don't understand GW logic. Here's how it works:

0-50: fluff (Synonyms ok) Analysis: Perfect - GW Logic: Great, moving on!

50-80 pictures (Synonyms ok) Analysis: Perfect - GW Logic: Great, moving on!

80-110 Models and their rules (get this stuff right or you will have thousands of nerds emailing you asking questions and cause trouble for tournament officials making it more trouble to run your product as an event) Analysis: Seems like our writers are incapable of getting this right - GW Logic: Stop writing FAQs, reading emails, and running Tournaments! And fire the art department! No one plays this game except 13 nerds in Iowa anyhow. People buy our models for the models!!!
