| The start collecting boxes are a great start. Same with the talos and ravager. Incubi are good, but it's too easy to make them super expensive. For this reason I would stay away from Drazhar.
DE specialize in a bunch of small units all attacking together. We have cardboard armor and will die when we get targeted. The trick is to have multiple small units all able to fill the same roll (anti tank, anti infantry, objective scoring, etc), so when your 2 raiders get blown up turn 1, you still have another 2 raiders who can fill the gap.
One thing you should add to your list is venoms. They are great at shooting and can also tran sport stuff.

| Wyches are practically useless. They die if you sneeze on them and they can't kill anything. They're an expensive tar it unit that you can't afford to take. The DE have to be economical with their points, you can't really afford to waste points on something that might be ok, you have to take things you know are going to be good.
You probably have too many Incubi. I don't use characters so I can't say whether Drazhar is good or not but you have too many regular Incubi. You want 3-4 only, otherwise they kill the unit they assault in on turn, leaving them exposed to enemy fire the next. You want them to almost kill the unit they assault so that they can finish the off in the enemy turn, avoiding a whole turns worth of fire. If you keep them at 4 models max then you also have the option of giving them an Archon or Succubus HQ and/or a Venom transport too. 3 Incubi and a HQ in a Venom is a very good second wave or emergency assault unit.
Ravagers are good. Take more of them.
Talos are good but one will die fast. I think if you're going to take Talos then you should commit to a Coven formation and take several of them. Dark Artisan is the cheapest of those (and one of the best anyway) - 1 Talos, 1 Chronos and a Haemonculus in a single unit together.
You want more Reavers. Squads of 3 are great for taking objectives and being a pest, the more you have the better. If you want to use the Start Collecting formation bonus of Preferred Enemy then making those Reaver squads bigger is a good idea - 6 man squads would get a lot of value out of PE with double the number of HoW attacks.
You want many more transports than you have. Ideally everything should have a transport. It's worth deciding what you want your warriors to do. They should either be 5 man MSU units for scoring and wasting enemy firepower or they should be 10 man Raider squads with a strong preference for splinter racks (unless you really can't afford the points for them). You can use them as MSU units to sit in the backfield and camp objectives but with Reavers able to be anywhere they like on the board I don't like the idea of wasting units to just sit and do nothing, especially when your list has to be ultra efficient to compete. Another final option is to blob them up with an Archon and webway them into position.
Your best option with those models would be to put the warriors in the Raiders with splinter racks and nightshields, sit them in cover the whole game to hopefully survive without junking while you gun down whatever you aim at. Put the 2 Archons with the Incubi and Wyches and webway them into a position where the unit can assault and the Archons can provide LoS for the formation units. The Talos can provide bodyguard duty for your Raiders (if it tries to charge at the enemy lines it's going to get blown up fast) whilst the Ravager snipes whatever it can. I guess take Drazhar if you have the points but a unit with an Archon, Drazhar and 5 Incubi will butcher anything they charge in combat, probably anything that charges them too, leaving them very exposed in the enemy turns if you can't consolidate into cover every time.
You could count Drazhar as an ordinary Incubi instead and have 2 units of 3 Incubi and assign both to your Archons. This leaves the Wyches but I guess you could leave them camping a backfield objective in cover. They're not gonna be much good doing anything else!

| Hi there,
The best advice I can give as a fellow newbro to DE is to just put a 500pt list together & get yourself down to your LGS & get stuck in.
If you've played other armies, it will take a while to master DE & even then you may not win.
According to the internets, DE are under-powered & will get wrecked in a competative match, however, in real life, your opponents won't have optimised lists either & some guys have fluffly lists too.
Ideally they will match you up against someone who also has a couple of 'Start Collecting' boxes of their own race & you should get some fun fights.
Don't take defeat personally, smile & remember, then when you get that perfect storm when everything works & you do win, cackle mercilessly & drink their tears!

| Want to second an earlier statement about venoms. Get them. Love them. Stick 3 ma'am squads of incubi with an Archon into them and think of them as surgical saws. Send them at the right target at the right tIme (tough 3-4, 2+ armor, not an amazing invuln save) and you will love them. | |
