An "Evil?" project log. 6/21 Don't call it a comeback!

Hey all,
Couldn't come up with an evil/pretentious/smug enough name for my Kabal, so I just settled on "Evil" project log. (My wife is the source of my handle here-years ago I showed her a model that I had just painted to which she replied "wait, are these the evil space elves?")


I've been picking the brains of people on this forum for months now for painting ideas, outright stealing ideas for for my own stuff, and thought it would be time to post a log to give credit to people's ideas that I am ripping off!

I am a longtime DE player and have maintained through the years, more or less, the same scheme throughout. Thought I'd show some old stuff to show where I started years ago.

I've been using a lot of my old models while s   l  o   w   l   y   adding the new ones. I got married last summer and started a compressed MA in education program. Add student teaching and you get really slow progress.

I will get better photos of wyches and other things that are finished later. (most of my stuff is in a case at my LFGS 50 miles away). I am working on finishing my first Raider for my wyches this weekend between working on grad school madness. If I feel really frisky I might actually get some Blasterborn converted.

Special thanks to GAR, Local Ork, and Sarrowshard (totally stole his Trueborn helmet glow!) and all others that have helped me with input and suggestions when I have gotten painters-block. All input and suggestions welcome!

Acquire away! I was telling a friend of mine that I can't believe that I haven't seen it already. When I saw your coven themed army with Wrack gunners I thought that it might be cool to do a Ravager with three Talos tail guns coming out of the hull. The tentacles left over from the Talos/Cronos kit should look pretty boss hanging from the hull bottom.

Awesome work all round Evil! I usually don't like the earlier gen stuff much, but your Warriors and Wyches look terrific and your Archon is simply great.

Can't wait to see the finished Coven Raider and Ravager, very cool idea!

Just doing the Coven raider. Don't have enough time or parts to do the Coven Ravager . I thought it would be a cool idea for Deneris's all-coven army. It would even save him three wrack models to boot.

Funny that we both had the same idea for Trueborn

I had seen this the other day, and I'm totally stealing the Talos idea for my Coven Raider. I really need to get a Talos kit or two stat!

I think that we've both stolen that idea from EVERYBODY on this site and the internet for Trueborn Those Reaver helmets are quite spiffy and the shredder conversion is easy as hell to do.
Do steal away for the talos tail gun idea. It seemed so obvious a choice that I can't believe that I haven't seen one already.

I suppose you are right, I'm just getting around to DE recently Could you perhaps take a closer shot of one of the conversions done? I'm battling myself on how exactly I'm going to go about it.

I love the vehicles and your bases are just great- especially those of the 5 man Warriors squad at the end of post 1.

I also like your old Haemonculi (it IS written with an "i" even if it's just a single on in English, right?), looks really good, even though the old model is pretty small.

Thanks RH. My new skimmers will get the basing when I have enough of the new stuff to field. Trying really hard to replace all of my old models. Can't play a game with primed only minis. The Balsterborn will be done by Monday, the Raider for my Wracks will be next.

No idea how and when to spell with an "i" "us" or "ai". I'm a history teacher that could never teach English classes!

I know that, in German (where ususally the "original" latin terms, cases etc. are used), it's one haemoncolus, multiple haemonculi.
But I got no clue wether it's the same in English or not....


btw: You'll need to take new pics of your Wracks and the new Haemonculus (), the cloth and skin seem to look good, I'd like to see them a bit clearer

English really seems to make up grammatical rules as it goes along. It will be a little while before I can get some better photos of the Haemi and Wracks up. They're in the LFGS's display case 50 miles away. I'll edit out the old crappy photos when I get the new ones.

Could you tell me how you did the torsos on the Wracks? I like the colourtone and I was looking for such a tone.

I used a mixture of Shadow Grey/Nyss Flesh from the P3 line/Space Wolves Grey to base coat the torsos. I want to say it was roughly 1:2:2( I mixed it to match an older batch that I did years ago for my old DE army that I used with different paints. I washed them with Leviathan Purple mixed 2:1 with Vallejo Smoke. I built up the highlights with Space Wolves Grey and white mixed in as I layered. Turned out pretty good, though I painted the Haemonculus with Fortress Grey as a base washed with Assurman Blue with a little purple and a touch of flesh wash. Added more white to the Fortress Grey and got more or less the same results with less work. I will try to get better pictures of them if I can get to the store where they are displayed next week. I really had a blast painting the unit and am looking forward to painting my other unit of Wracks and Urien with Grotesque bodyguards.

The lesser work option sounds good... As I'm planning to field a lot of wracks (love the model XD)

Your army looks amazing so far. Especially the color schemes on those vehicles. Also the Wrack Raider looks really interesting and really feels like a Haemonculi creation. Awesome stuff.

This is my "not progress" from the September monthly painting vow.


The Blasterborn only need the skin tabbard thingies and metals painted. Might be done with those tonight. I want to also finish the accessories and little things on the Wyches' raider before getting on to the raider for my Wracks and a Ravager. I'm really itching for that Wracks' raider...Might paint an HQ of some sort if I start getting burnt out this month.

Wow ESE, those guys look sick! I really like "gem" effect on helmets.

Finally done with the Blasterborn :


Now to get the banners, runes on the hull, and spiky details done on that damned Raider! Looking forward to get that out of the way so I can finally do the Wrack's Raider conversion.
