| Thanks for the game this weekend, your models look even better in person. You sir need to start using a wet palette, not sure what that board is your mixing your paints on, but a wet palette will change your life. | |

So, using the box that my Nobs came in three years ago isn't doing it for you? I've heard nothing but good things about wet palettes and should really get off of my rear to get one. And thanks for the great game last Saturday! I'm still trying to figure out what to do about that worthless Archon...I'm hoping paint will improve my dice rolls. If anyone here hasn't seen SmallVictory's cool bases, check them out here: https://thedarkcity.forummotion.com/t2016-smallvictory-plog#21220They are quite spiffy in person. @Angrypeasant-I'll take an army shot when I finish my 1750 list that I played last weekend. I only need to paint my Cronos, Talos, 2 Raiders, 3 Grotesques, an Archon, and finish about 5 Wyches... Okay, it might be a while.

| I wonder if You considered NOT attaching "trophy racks" on Engines. I think their carpace may look cool with holes filled... | |

You know, I hadn't thought of that. Intriguing idea though; it would solve my only problem with both the Talos and Cronos kits! Hmmmm....might have to steal that.

My thoughts exactly! Finished it up the other day: I guess that this will count as my "paint something frivolous" for my December monthly vow. Plan on finishing up painting another Grot tomorrow, maybe base coating my coven Raider to wrap up the year.

| Cranked out the Grotesque with liquifier that I was working on: (He's the one on the right) I'm trying to figure out if I can salvage one of the two other Grotesques that I purchased through conversion work. I'm going to have to call GW customer service to get them replaced as the castings are awful. I've been really disappointed by the quality of these Grotesque models. These were two of the better of the five castings that I purchased, and they weren't good at all. Thankfully the Wrack castings that GW has been putting out lately look quite good. I think that I'll get on painting that second Coven Raider before getting that Baron conversion in gear for next month. | |

| The stuff in the tubes is simply Orkhide shade highlighted with Snot green, then Scorpion Green, with a final highlight of thinned white for the edges. | |

| Your Cronos looks terrific ESE, the glowy bits especially. Your painting is very smooth.
Too bad about your FC Grots, these two that you have completed are excellent. Muted, yet still colourful. The bases are very nice.
I still can't fathom why GW produced a mono-pose fig for this model. Seeing five of these coming across the table looking pretty much identical just doesn't seem right.
Luv'ly work! | |

Luv'ly work! Thanks for the kind words Gobs! The mono-pose is annoying, though I'm a lot more annoyed by the AWFUL quality of the Failcastings. I don't mind doing conversions to add variety-having to do conversions to try to make miscast crap work is not cool. A quick call to GW customer service should clear it up tomorrow. It was a productive Coven Christmas for me this month. I'm looking forward painting up that Talos this week.

| WOW all I can say is wow! I am new to 40k or painting in general (besides walls lol) and your models have completely blown me away! Definitely gives me something to aspire to. My buddy came over this last weekend and showed me dry brushing and the importance of edging. Keep up the great work | |

Having a friend help you when you start painting will save you YEARS of technique development. I started painting in 89-90, and didn't really learn any decent techniques until gaming/painting sites started posting tips. It took me almost 18 years of painting to learn how to make sure that my brush doesn't get too dried out when I'm trying to blend and paint smoothly. I try to dab the bristles in a small puddle of water on the palette, then dabbing off the excess water before reapplying paint. Sounds like a silly tip, but it really has made a world of difference when trying to put down smooth layers. ALWAYS ask questions if you see anything painted that you like in person. Only the biggest jerks will refuse to give you useful advice if you ask. End of preaching About 1/2 way done with the Talos. I'll post a progress pic tomorrow night. I'm going to have to get to that Baron conversion sooner or later for the Archon's Challenge...

| The world changer for me was wet pallet. Thats what really simplify things. Thanks when i started to paint i look some good DVD of French miniature painter, that explains complicated things in a simple matter.
Thanks for him i wasnt stuck in base color/wash shading/extreme highlighting that GW seems to promote.

There are a few easy to follow tutorials on Cool Mini Or Not to make one. Can't post the link at the minute as I am a new member and do not have the capabilities I found some YouTube videos on making them. It looks so easy that I really should kick myself in the can for not trying one before. I'm trying a homemade version before I sink any cash into one. Thought I'd post a WIP of my Talos: Forgot about the little arm thingies on the sides and just primed them. I'm stealing Gobs idea of ditching the racks on top and just pinning in a pump/vial/whatever in each hole of the carapace. Just have to paint the carapace/vambrances, shade and do final highlights to get this big boy done! It's going to be really tempting to not assemble that second Talos, but I really do need to get the 1750 list painted that I've been having fun with.
