| really nice work, the contrast between the wasteland on the ground and the clean shiny armor of the talos gives some kind of nightmarish atmosphere ! | |

I wasn't a fan of the sculpt either until I painted it. It just grew on me as kept working on it. (I was a much bigger fan of taking Wraithguard as Troops ) The staff colors: Based with Warplock Bronze Highlighted with Runelord Brass Washed with Aggrax Earthshade and Colelia Greenshade (50/50) Highlighted with Runelord Brass, final highlight of Runelord Brass/Chainmail (50/50) Speaking of which, it's done! I want to work on a big buddy for this guy next (Wraithlord)

| It's been a while, but I finally started back on the army. Incubi WIP: I've put off painting these (I have 10) for a couple of years now for a couple of reasons. 1. I really don't use them all that much in games. Having a painted unit will hopefully help with that, though I thought the same with Mandrakes, Beasts, and Hellions 2. The models are fantastic, but intimidating. They are such an iconic and infamous unit for the DE, and as such should really have some time spent on them. I was truly stuck on how to paint them for all this time. The classic scheme seemed so orthodox, though I must admit that I have always had a soft spot for it from my old 3rd edition days playing DE. After reading most of Path of the Incubus I really dig the idea of them being aspect warriors of sorts and opted for the classic scheme. I hope to do the models justice as I really think that they are amongst, if not the best models of the range. | |

Ugh...don't remind me I'll try to get some highlights on them by tomorrow, though I have a 2 hour Aikido seminar AND an ice hockey game to play tonight...I''ll get them going if I am still able to hold a paint brush after all of that though I can't make any promises.

| They look great ESE. The pale gold looks great (what shade of gold is it?) and the blending on their helms is top-notch. Can't wait to see the whole squad.
To me they are the most badass unit across the entire Eldar line. I really want to run a squad of ten with my tooled up Archon and a Klaivex just for the fun of it, but like you I'm finding it difficult to work them in effectively. I really need to go all in and execute the phantasm grenade launcher screen as Mush detailed in the PGL thread awhile back.

For the gold I use P3 Blighted Gold washed with P3 Coal Black and Aggrax Earthshade. That's what's in the pic. I still need to highlight it with P3 Brass Balls (best paint name EVER), and a final highlight from a 23 year-old bottle of Shining Gold. (It looks most like P3's current Platinum color) I still need to do a final highlight of white on the masks. They still look to me as though they need a deeper shading of the Shadow Grey Replacement (The Fang I think?)

| Dang! You still have shining gold? That was the BEST gold GW ever produced. Jealous!
BTW the grey you are thinking of....Eshin Grey? Its my favorite grey in the GW line, its one step above black, and a step or two below codex grey (though codex grey highlights it quite nicely).

| It is The Fang(bluish-grey). And yes, that bottle of Shining Gold never seems to dry. They just don't make paint with the same formula..probably giving me cancer or something | |

| Incubi done! I freaking love the Incubi sculpts. I'll try to squeeze a couple of more in before the month is over. finally chose which one to base the Klaivex on, but still need to work out how I want to modify the trophy rack. | |

| Really cool ! I love the precision of the highlights on the armor.
What colors did you used for the basing? I love the tone of it, and if you don't mind, I think it could be the perfect basing for my bugs.

I use these: I use a large tank brush to drybrush Mechanicus Standard Grey, Dawnstone, and Administratum Grey. I do a light final highlight with Underhive Ash (Citadel Dry, replaced the old Rotting Flesh color that I used to use). I use a wash of watered-down Brown ink to tone it down and shade it a bit. Finally I dust the base with the Vallejo Umber pigment. You have to make sure to varnish the mini after you use the powder to prevent it dusting off. It's a really simple way to paint urban ruins or blasted earth. I also painted my WHFB Ogre Kingdoms army using similar colors with added static grass.

| Got a few more Kabalites done for the monthly vow, and FINALLY managed to paint this girl up (this model has been sitting on my desk half-base coated for at least 18-20 months ) : With Kabalites: I have three more Kabalite Warriors with splinter rifles, two with blasters on my desk that I have started on and hope to paint up this week. Finally figured out how I want to paint my Sslyth and might try to get the rest of my court ready for paint as well. They would match up well with a little mini-project that I plan to unveil next month | |

| I have to commend you ESE, this has got to be the longest running PLOG and it has only gotten better with each new post.
I am really digging the incubi, especially the dark color on the tips of the horns. Very nice touch.
The Lamian is kind of wierd, I really like some parts of her, some others I don't. I think the color of her skin is bothering me, it seems a little too close to the colors of the black highlight and it is making my eye wander all over the model for a focal point. Not to say it is badly done, far from it, but I tend to be nitpicky about the simplest things.
My two pain tokens.
More please. | |

I painted it with the idea of causing eye strain I know what you mean. The skin looks much lighter, almost white in person. My crappy camera phone and lighting tends to wash out color a bit, but I do tend to use a pretty limited palette when it comes to greys and blacks. Getting that model done did cause my painting ADHD to flare up again. These slithered onto my desk despite having a 0% chance of ever making it into a game: I'm totally getting sidetracked from my Monthly Vow, but I really don't mind as long as it takes me a bit closer to getting all of the models for this army painted. Almost have a unit painted for all of the entries from the codex aside from:
- Dakkaborn
Harlequins Clawed Fiend Razorwing Flocks Court of the Archon (in progress)
I figure that once I have a unit painted for each of these I'll go back and convert/paint special characters at a leisurely pace.

| Nice lhaeaman, could fit well as any HQ unit. I'm envious of your shading on dark armour/leather/cloth! Also, I like her having pale white skin. Feels more DE to me. When people paint them with a little more color or tan, I feel that they don't stand out as much compared to the rest of the human armies. What mix do you use on her skin?
Would be nice seeing how your snake people turn out.

| I have to say I like to build all units in a codex, regardless of how effective they are currently. With a new codex they could get boosted up in power and you can spend time building all the new goodness that gw will bring out. Also in friendly/ fluffy games it is always fun to bring out underused units for a bit of fun and to change playstyles a bit | |

+1 I know that the Court would make it to an Apoc game for sure for the style points alone. I have a tendency to also want to paint all builds from the codex just for the modeling/painting joy of it all
