| I like this skin colour and the pipes, looking forward to see it done! What shades of brown do you use for the base? | |

| It's drybrushed Adeptes/Codex/Fortress Grey with a final sparse drybrush of Rotting Flesh washed with brown ink. there might be a sprinkling of weathering powder from the floor sections that gives it more of a brown tone. I posted a tutorial in the modeling section. I think that it is under "Urban Bases Cheap" or something along those lines.

| Good stuff as usual. As far as the wet palette goes the homemade method is the way to go. 1 get a tupperware like container 2 cut out and layer 4-6 sheets of paper towells 3 add water, dumping out excess so the only water left is whats held in the towells 4 cut out a sheet of parchment paper that fits the tupperware 5 press it onto the bottom, rubbing out any bubbles Paint will stay moist for weeks as long as you keep the lid on when not painting. | |

| Just as a foot note: parchment paper is also known as greeseproof paper, or commonly as baking sheet paper! Its the stuff you use to bake cookies on, yum yum! | |

| So, apparently I was the LAST PERSON IN THE WORLD not using a wet palette. Thanks to all of you for turning me onto the best painting tip that I have been ignoring(due to shear laziness ) for years now. Total game changer! I wish that I had a unit to paint as this must make painting 5-10 models at a time a breeze! My $7 ghetto-tastic wet palette(I cut the sponge in half and bought a 3 pack of the containers, I could actually make 2 of these for that price!) Best thing ever. I owe all of you a beer for recommending this to me.(Although Smallvictory is probably the only one that I will get a chance to actually repay in person ) Also finally got the Talos done this morning: I have a lot of lesson prep to do this weekend for next week's classes (Get ready for trench warfare kids!), but hope to start up on my Baron conversion for the Archon's Challenge. I'm not all that keen on conversions, but I am trying to figure a way to jazz up the Barons skyboard with Raider keelblades. We'll see. I don't have my heart on making him all that spectacular as he really is just an excuse to run Hellions every once in a while. | |

| Looking very good mate. I've been following your thread for a little while, and you have yourself a cool looking army there (I also envy your ability to trundle out great quality in a short space of time..!) | |

(I also envy your ability to trundle out great quality in a short space of time..!) Thanks for the kind words! I wish that I had the patience to try to do a show piece model or two, but I always try to crank out armies for table top usage. I was looking at my Baron conversion (or, my lack of progress on my Baron conversion ) when I realized that I should probably try my hand painting a Hellion test model first to see what worked for me. The pic will serve double duty as a WIP shot for the (probably )next round of the Archon's Challenge: Troops!

Incorrect! Your Talos is excellent ESE. Again, that colour scheme is a terrific combination. It will work well on the skyboards, too.

It really makes a huge difference. I've been painting for close to 20 years, and have always struggled with acrylics drying out on me. The wet palette keeps the paint at the consistency that you want for HOURS. It is totally counter-intuitive and almost shocking when you use it at first. You don't realize how much paint that you waste on dry palettes until you see that you put double the amount of paint that you need on the palette because you are used to half or more of the paint drying out. I have only used it when I finished my Talos, but I am really looking forward to painting units of 5 models at a time. Hell, I might try painting 10 at a time. All of that being said, washes seem to soak through If anyone has a tip on this I'd be game to try it out. @Gobs-I'm struggling with how to paint the Hellions. I'm leaning towards doing the boards purple with teal rune designs like my Raiders/Ravagers/Venoms. I've also toyed with making them a little different with black boards with teal designs/purple accents somewhere.

| Your wet sponge is getting too dry, as it dries out it will pull the moisture down instead of pulling the moisture up to keep the paint from drying. I think you should try the paper towel method, you can cut the paper towels and the parchment parer to fit the bottom of your tray and let the water pool under the paper a little. These paints are a three days old, there are inks and a wash on there with no bleeding through. I vote for the hellion boards matching the Raiders by the way. | |

| Haven't finished highlights or painted on the teal designs on the skyboard, but I am liking how this test Hellion is coming together. Crazy busy this week, but I'm hopping to get this guy done and my Baron conversion actually put together this weekend now that I have a better idea of how these will look in my army. Kinda liking the idea of a big unit of these guys.... | |

| Looking pretty neat~ I really do like what I see!
Strangely enough, what really caught my eyes on the model was the blended kneepad for some reason, I can't get my eyes off from it.

(Not nearly as impressive in person ) Must have been the light angle or something. Either way, thanks! Haven't been able to get a damned thing done this week with teaching getting back into session. I did manage to figure out how I wanted to do the Baron's skyboard conversion with Raider keel blades. Started slapping together 5 more Hellions tonight. The Baron with 14 Hellions and Helliarch(+Agonizer) is exactly the same amount of points as my Archon+Grotesques /Raider unit that I've been running. Easy flexibility is what I'm all about when it comes to army lists. Should get the Baron conversion done this weekend. Not much time to paint him up with the 21st deadline and all of my teaching shenanigans in the coming week.

| But that Archon was working so well for you. Big hellion squads with the baron are super scary, I think thats the way to go. Can't wait to see the Baron, I'm sure you'll get him done by the 21st, I hope to be done with that challenge by the 21st of FEB at my pace. | |

| Slapped 5 more together to expand the Hellion gang. (Still) unfinished Baron in the foreground Hoping to dive into his skyboard conversion tonight. I promised myself that I would buy another box of Hellions to finish off the gang if I got him converted and assembled by Sunday night. | |

| Actually got started on the Baron's board. Started by scoring around the wings that I wanted to remove: I then removed the old wings and clipped the Raider keels: Once I figure out the angle that I want the wings set at I should be able to fix them just below where they will end up being attached, spray primer from my airbrush to get an exact outline, and then cut the keels to fit more or less exactly where they should fit. Hope it works seeing as how my greenstuff skills are CRAP. I really wish that I could sit down right now and hammer it out, but my Goddaughter's 3rd birthday is in 30 minutes... | |

| The primer trick worked pretty well. I only had to tweak with it a little bit. It turned out decent. I'll need to jazz it up a little bit when the green stuff cures at the joints. Really looking forward to working the left arm out, adding the bald-pony-tailed head, and getting the base done. Hope to start painting him up tomorrow night! I just got those Wracks in the background off of Ebay...tempting, but I really need to get the Baron DONE! | |
