Once last option I'm looking at is the trueborn squad and venom being anti infantri with 2x shredders and 2x splinter cannons rather than blasters and DL. Thoughts?

Personally I wouldn't use shredders. The points, range, and random amount of shots don't seem worth the Str.6.

I think if you want to try out the 2 splinter cannons, though, it wouldn't hurt.

This would be my list if I were to base it off of the last list you gave and adding in the splinter cannon trueborn. I think it could be fun. I am a big fan of splitting up the warriors to get extra special weapons, more sybarites, and to spread out wounds for morale checks.

Agonisers are great addons so I have done that for all units that can. The idea being that most of the ranged weaponry wants to be pretty close. If you are close and can get the charge, you will strike first, and the -2 ap with the consistent wounding adds up in close combat. And only 4 points.

Again, it's a lot of personal preference that I think is good. Hope this helps.

You can't have a 4 man warrior squad, you can only have understrength squads if it's the only squad of that type in your army. So you need to change the 4 and 5 man to a 9 man, or drop the 4 man squad altogether. I like the 9 man unit with the Archon to be honest, his leadership bubble helps quite a bit. With the 21 points left over you could pick up a Blaster for the Trueborn and put a Pgl on the Archon and one on one of the warrior squads.

How are you getting the 9 man if you can't have understrength according to what you said?

Having 2 squads is objectively better by gaining 1 attack in close combat over a single squad. It's subjectively better by adding in extra weapons, forcing your opponent to make decisions on split fire, and reducing effects of morale.

You can check the rulebook if you have one, I'm away from home at the moment so don't have access. It was mentioned in either a rulings thread (I think?) quite recently as well. The 9 man squad isn't understrength, you can include up to an addition 5 for an increase in power level of 2, per the unit entry. If I'm wrong on the first ruling then definitely I prefer the 4 man squad and would be quite happy to hear it, I don't disagree with your reasoning for the smaller squads and it's part of the reason I suggested the Raider units earlier in the thread.

Just checked, it should be on page 242. I think I might be wrong though.

I like the suggested list! Thanks a lot again. I think trueborn is right, I've just checked the rule book so happy to stick with the 9 man squad just now but can see the benefits of multi small units for more blasters and agonisers.

Will add a blaster to the trueborn squad as I've managed to source one spare so far!

Glued and primed my first warrior tonight so I can get a test paint on him!

from page 242: "Sometimes you may find that you do not have enough models to field a minimum-sized unit; if this is the case, you can still include one unit of that type in your army with as many models as you have available."

I think the part that says "minimum-sized unit" allows a 5 man (the minimum) to be dropped down to 4, right?

As for the other part, are you referencing the "you can still include one unit of that type...". I could see what you mean by only allowing one unit, so that would mean you could only take 1 warrior squad for the whole army, correct?

If the case is that to get an understrength unit you can only take one of that unit for the whole army, then I would think it would be best to take a single 5 man unit in a raider and add the archon to that raider. That way you can take the rest of your warrior units.

I'll have to look into this more. Thanks

You could take a 4 man warrior squad if that was the only warrior squad in your army yes. When I said earlier that you can't have a 4 man squad, I meant in this list, not in general. You're 100% right that the 4 man squad is legal, as long as it's the only squad of this type in the army. The reason I suggest the 9 man squad is because the Archon can help remove the effects of moral and also because I can't see anything else to do with the 50 points you save by dropping the 4 man squad without changing the list quite a bit. You could move the other 2 five man's to Venoms but I believe the OP doesn't have Venoms. So I thought the best course was to add a PGL to the Archon and a PGL to one of the squads in the other Raider and then add a Blaster to the Trueborn unit. Admittedly it doesn't seem 100% optimal but having an extra Blaster can't hurt too much. The only other thing I can think to change would be to consider using the 20 points on dissies for the Razorwing, but I feel this list needs the anti tank.
