The Cult of Tears

I've finally finished painting some of my Dark Eldar to the point where I consider them done, with bases and all.

Comments and critiques appreciated. This is my first army (or miniatures) ever, so I've got lots to learn!


Here's the first one, Lelith Hesperax:





This one's actually a turn-around video so you can see the shininess of the blood better. Woo, exciting.

I like it, the paint looks a little thick in places but the facial expression and detail is awesome.

That is the most epic 360 video I have seen.

For a first mini that's very, very good. However, you really should paint the flock on your base. It's a shame to spend all that time painting a mini and then not painting its base. It looks out of place that way.

I like the look on her face a lot. She really looks like a cold hearted killer.

Interesting. I figured I wanted her in sand and she was in sand, so I left it that way!

The paint is a bit thick, but that's unfortunately due to 1) me not knowing to properly clean the model when I assembled it (I literally found a flash line on the base yesterday when I was painting it!) and 2) overspraying the primer. I was too close and didn't know it!

Live and learn...

The Cult of Tears has a monster!

Dark Muses! I love the Talos. I think the only thing I need to suggest on your models is that they appear to lack shading. I don't know much about washes, but you might want to ask some of our painting pros.

Which shading were you referring to?

There's shading on all the skin at the very least. I used washes to bring out the crevices, then highlighted up. Maybe it doesn't show up too well in the pictures. I think you can see it pretty well in the Lelith video, though.

I did some edging on the Talos, but I wanted to keep it as dark as possible so I could add glossy varnish and make it look like a beetle.

That's it then. It's the carapace that was lacking, but know that you mentioned what you did, I noticed it better.

Never mind. Gripe retracted!

And I love the Lelith video. I wish GW would do 3D renders of all their models. It would save me a lot of time trying to find the components/sprue lists online.

Yeah, the lighting on the Talos really makes a difference. The first set of photos looks totally black, but the last one, you can see the blueish tinge, even though the only thing I did was add the symbol for my Cult to the carapace.

I appreciate the feedback regardless since I'm still learning and probably always will be!

Also, using the hangers-on for the Raider/Ravager and some spare bits from Warriors and Scourges, I made these fine, Trueborn fellows:

Also, I started making some webway portals.

I've decided to (mostly) repaint my warriors and wyches using the skills I've developed since I bought them. My Trueborn will be my experimental units.

Now I have to figure out how to implement my colour scheme...

I love how you can see Commorragh through your webway portals. Looks awesome.

That Talos looks just plain mean.

Like get out the beat stick and whip you with it mean. Very nice.

Nice! I love the metallic finish. I think your banner needs to look more Dark Eldarish. That's my only criticism.
