Hey all, I'm Emory, and I'm something of a returning vet. I'm just (re)starting a dark eldar army and getting back into the game after a long while away from the hobby. I'm excited to be starting up again, with all the changes and new models, it's all quite nifty. I stumbled across this site on a blog that I read, written by a player with some amazing conversions and paintjobs and it was neat to find a forum dedicated to just dark eldar. I'd been to some forums that were just general 40k forums, or eldar/DE forums, but I like seeing a home that is just for the True Kin. =)
I played dark eldar for probably around eight years before they were updated, and ended up getting out of the game a year or so ago. With the old codex, things sort of just got boring, since there wasn't much diversity in the army and I ended up using the same units and the same strategies. It bugged me, being so static in my approach to each battle, so I gave up dark eldar, tried a few different armies, and eventually just fell out of the game. I only recently decided to get back into it, about three weeks ago. Currently, I own a grand total of twenty-one models, and sadly, no vehicles. Not much of a fighting force yet =P But it's on it's way.
Just today, I finished painting my very first warrior, and I think he looks quite decent. I'm not the greatest painter, despite the amount of time I've spent playing the game, but this time around I plan to make my army look respectable. It was pretty shoddy, before. I intend to paint all of my current models before I buy anything else, firstly because I need to pinch my pennies (darn medical bills), and secondly because I'd like to have a good-looking force.
In the new codex, I haven't found anything thus far that I particularly don't like. All of it seems really great, and though I've heard some of the other dark eldar players in my area gripe about how Mandrakes are subpar, I still love them, just because they're so much better compared to what they used to be. But, at heart, I am a Coven girl. Even back in fourth edition, I used Haemonculi, Grotesques, and Taloi quite often, because I loved the theme of the Covens, and the idea of flesh-crafted beasts armed with eldritch weaponry, led by dark eldar that are half mad scientist, half sorcerer/ess. So I mainly plan to play Covens as of now, though I still love Kabals and Cults, and plan to use their units.
Anyway, hope this gives some insight on me. I've been playing for quite a while, but by no means am I an expert on the game or the hobby. I'm still learning, and any tips people would like to throw my way would be appreciated.
