I have always loved dark eldar fluff, and models. But have always been turned off, by the lack of updates back then.

So you're saying that GW's lack of interest in promoting the Dark Eldar product line drove your purchasing decisions? Fast forward to every individual who says "GW focuses on Space Marines because they sell!". Welp....here is why.

| Man starting the new year with a chaos and imperium codex, guess I should have seen that coming but what a bummer. A codex for one of the other xenos factions would at least brought us closer to ours. | |

| They're next. What possible reason would there be to hype two codexes and a model line and then forget about them for a couple months? | |

| I feel like the real people being shafted here are Necrons and Tau. No updates for them in Chapter Approved, and now they're getting pushed behind yet another imperium release? | |

| Source for those rumors? Sounds accurate to me though I'll admit I want our codex before tau/crons. - DevilDoll wrote:

One more week of nurgle daemons/AoS Nurgle, then custodes and T-sons rounds out all the January releases. Wouldn't be surprised if Space Wolves follow right after T-sons to start February off.

I have always loved dark eldar fluff, and models. But have always been turned off, by the lack of updates back then. Not entirely. DE got a significant update in 2003 that breathed new life into the codex. Specifically, wyches became awesome. Talos got monster status. To name a couple things. Hellglaives *almost* became power weapons (they were in the initial version published in WD). However, IIRC, people in the DE online community complained about that being overpowered, so that didn't happen in the final draft (in retrospect, they should have kept their mouths shut ).

Might as well get started on the dark eldar army any way. Guess they will get a codex some day I did start a Dark Eldar army not knowing if or when Dark Eldar would get a codex nor waiting for it. Index fulfills my needs for now. Quite frankly, I worry much more for what will be included in a codex and how will it be done that for the codex to be released. I'd much prefer a codex with all the fluff being well written and all the characters being included (Sliscus, Sathonix), maybe even somebody new, and the units being well handled (Reavers and that). I'd much prefer that no codex is released if it's not done this way. Meanwhile, the Index and yearly revisions in the Chapter Approved books will have to do (for example the points reduction on Sslyth is fine)...

| My main problem is right now that to play legally with my army I have to buy the chapter approved. Which comes down to 4 sentences in a book I use I would be obliged to pay 25 euro. I know that there is a lot more in there, but most of it I could not care less about. Which was why I really liked the city of death and death from the skies supplements, I had the option to not buy them and there was no problem. But with chapter approved a few months after the codex it is already illegal. After our codex drops I know that in 2-9 months that if the other armies are any indication I will have to buy the errata for our codex again. It bugs me a lot that buying a brand new codex I will again have to pay 25 euro for what actually comes down to an errata with some additional optional rules I will probably rarely if ever use.

| I am not sure about you, but how many people in your area play power level or open play? I would barely have opponents (if any). In my area pretty much everyone plays matched, not edge of the knife WAAC, but still matched.

Fingers crossed boys.... Crossing fingers. Here in Catalonia we have St. George in April 23rd, our lover's day, when books are the present of choice. Also my borthday happens in May so it will be about time for me A new wave of AoS elves also means conversion possibilities. Just in time!

Not to worry. I believe that the beginning pages of chapter approved state that everything in that book is optional to players. So you don't need to buy it. Index is still legal.

| This makes me sad. There's a decent chance I'll never get to play with Dark Eldar in their 8th edition, codexed glory. If a source can predict custodes, I'm damned inclined to believe. | |

Would this also go for all the price increases for a lot of forgeworld models and the imperial guards etc? Because then why would they ever use it?

| If you're playing purely DE I can't think of too many reasons why you'd need CA. The only points changes were to the Court, which not many people use, and the Tantalus, which is a bit more popular. The warlord traits, relic and stratagem are all pretty useless at this point, the only thing of real value was objective secured, which everybody got so you don't really even need CA for that.
I'd still recommend getting it though, the 12 new Eternal War and Maelstrom missions in there are excellent, much better than the standard 12.

| If at least the rules for vehicles had been generic ones and not "build your own Land Raider"...
Apart from the new cost for Sslyth (quite a good change), Stratagem, Traits and Relic are nice although the Archon one and the Relic are a bit underwhelming...

| 40 bucks is what i'm ready to pay for a 300 pages D&D handbook.
Not a glorified erratum.
