With some of the buffs from the new codex I have been thinking of ways to bring an overwhelming quantity of mortal wounds to the table quickly.. this is what I have so far:

2-3 voidravens commencing bombing runs immediately : up to 30 mortal wounds available from this depending on positioning.

Red Grief reaver squad of 12 or more performing the bladestorm flyover immediately : up to 12 or more MW from this and following it with a charge for up to 4 grav talon MW

Deep striking haywire scourges shooting into vehicles for an average of 4 or 5 mortal wounds

Red grief Tantalus advancing shooting and charging for charge mortal wounds - only limited by how many units you can fit within an inch of it.

This is potentially a ridiculous number of mortal wounds immediately. Are there any other ways you can think of getting even more in?

20 hellions will give more mortal wounds than reaver jetbikes. Just expect them to die soon afterwards.

Yeah my only concern with hellions is they have no guarantee of a significant enough advance to actually make it over enemies in turn 1. Reavers on the other hand are certainly fast enough and have the grav talons to back them up

Don't use them 1st turn. Keep them back a bit out of LOS, then advance them over when the enemy is close enough.

Why not both eh. Reavers use it turn 1 and hellions turn 2/3

I am not sure if Hellions are worthwhile at only 5 points less per model compared to reavers.

I think it's a genuine trade-off. On paper Hellions look like they're capable of dealing far more damage, but the Reavers are faster and more durable.

"Take both" is probably the correct answer if you're running a Wych Cult.
