Evening everyone!

I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong place, I've been flicking through the forum to try and find some advice for newcomers, post Codex. I haven't come across a lot yet with respect to list-builds.

Can anyone recommend a 'typical' Drukhari list for a complete novice? I'm keen to stay pure Drukhari and not mix in other Factions. My local gaming group typically uses Matched Play rules for casual games anywhere between 1000 and 2000 points.

Obviously jumping straight to 2000 points might be a bit of a stretch for a beginner, so 750-1000 point level recommendations would be ideal Smile

I've got the old DE Kabal Warrior Start Collecting set which is around 250 odd points without upgrades and I could pick up the Wych one which I assume is a similar points level. Would just need to arrange them into detachments then I guess.

Thanks for your patience and any advice Smile

Well, information is all over the place, you can find netlists all over. But for a list thats for you? Im not going to build you a list that i would like, i want to know what you like and i'll guide you.

What about DE do you like? Do you like fast, tough, shooting, melee style better?

As for popular units?
Archons
Kabals
Ravagers
RWJF
Raider
Venom
Haemonculus
Wracks
Grots
Talos

Wyches are not as popular, but do well, you need a bit more practice with them to make them work, but when they do work they can be amazing.

Try to get at least
2 Archons
3x5 Kabals
couple Raiders or Venoms
1-3 Ravagers
Maybe a Flyer or 2

That would be a good start for DE that fits in all DE lists

Thank you for the advice! I'm aware it's quite a large net to cast to find 'the list' haha Smile

I've seen a number of lists now running Kabals in fives, what's the reason behind this over units of 10+?
Also on those five, are they kitted out with Heavy & Special weapons?

I've built my first start collecting box as a unit of ten Kabal warriors with Dark Lance, Blaster and an agoniser on the Sybarite.

Kabals dont do anything worth wild in 8th, they are actually costly for the little they do, but they are cheap enough to always take for a Battalion. Especially when we have units like Ravagers, Grots, RWJFs, Talos, etc.. that needs our points.

Splinter cannons are not worth the points either, and DL's are -1 to hit on the Kabals when you move (and you are always moving), most players use Kabals on foot as bubble wrap or hold objectives, 5 is also easier to hide.

But that is all only true in a high end comp game, if you are playing local, then yeah you can take 5 with blasters, 10 with HW, etc... you wont notice it as much, and it might even be more fun for you.

I tend to always end up with a core of the following:
Kabal Batallion
2× Archon
3× 5 kabalites w/ blaster
4/5× Venom w/ cannons
Kabal Spearhead
Archon
3× Ravager
Sometimes I swap out the venoms for a Tantalus in the Spearhead. Other core detachments I run are an airwing with 2 razorwings and a voidbomber, a prophets of flesh batallion with Urien, Haemy, 20 wracks (5/5/10), 5 grotesques and 4 talos (2/2) 1 cronos. Sometimes I run a red grief outrider of Reaver Jetbikes (3×6 squads) sometimes a cursed blade Batallion (2 succ, 40 wyches 10/10/20, 20 Hellions). I've also had success with a cursed blade outrider of a suicide succubus, 20 wyches, 20 Hellions and 2×5 scourges with haywire.
There are very few dud units in our codex so get whatever you like the look of and build around that.

Like amishprn is suggesting, Kabalites are OK rather than amazing, and they along with the Archons are the tax you take to get the good bits - Command Points along with Ravagers and Flyers in the Kabal section.

You can either keep them absolutely minimal with three units of five with no upgrades, or give them a Blaster and pop them in Raiders or Venoms.

If you go the cheap option they wont be particularly useful, but can provide some protection against deep strike, fast assault units, or to hold backfield objectives.

If you upgrade them a little, you can either do two squads in a Raider or one in a Venom and they are then useful if you are moving forward.

I haven't played Orks yet, and if they change the meta a bit then poison could be more appealing and more Kabalites could become an appealing option. Points changes could also change how appealing Kabalites are, although I don't expect any changes there.

Starting to build up a Kabal force could go something like this:

Black Heart Spearhead (451 points)
Archon with Huskblade and Writ of the Living Muse
3 Ravagers with Disintegrator Cannons

Then you can upgrade to a Battalion (+166 points for 651 points total)
Archon with Huskblade
3 units of 5 Kabalite Warriors

Then you could upgrade the Kabalites (+162 points for 813 points total)
Add 3 Blasters
Raider with Disintegrator Cannon
Venom with Twin Splinter Rifles and Splinter Cannon

From there you could either upgrade the main firepower with Razorwing Jetfighters or Voidravens, or add another Archon and more Kabalites and have a Black Heart Spearhead and Flayed Skull Battalion.
