Competitive Lists without Coven

Anyone have any success with competitive lists without bringing any coven? I've been banging my head on the wall on whether I prefer a detachment of Talos with Urien or try an outrider detachment of Skyweavers....Currently thinking 3 groups of 4, 1 with Star Bolas and other 3 with the Zeph....add a shadoweaver to get some psykers in there and it all comes to 720 points ish. But that would mean dropping my coven to urien and 3 Talos as a spearhead detach and my kabal battalion is 2 archons, 3 rav with Dis and 3 units of troops of 5 with blaster and a venom.

Like the -1 to hit theme, but Talos soak up a lot of fire, but recently I found the game is decided before I get my talos into actual melee but their haywires did do some work. So replacing them with Skyweavers seems like a good fit with more mobility better chance at charging and still holding some AT weapons.

would it be best to drop the coven spearhead all together, and add some razorwings to the battalion?

I own 3 talos and 3 grotesques and my experiences with them are not the best tbh... It looks like they shine when taken en mase but I can guarantee you you can build competitive pure drukhari lists without coven at all.
You can decide to go full shooty with lots of venoms a triple razorwing air Wing and the mandatory triple ravager and then add whatever you want to fill in the points and you have a solid list that can hit really hard without loosing the time to go to melee as you mentioned.
If you really need some close combat id suggest trying out the yncarne in your pure list as well I know I may be biased and controversial but I'm having huge success with him atm...

Honestly, my experience with Coven has been mixed at best. I've used a smallish detachment with a couple of min squads of Grotesques, a Talos and a Haemonculus.

I've had a couple of games where they've done really well - either slaughtering whole units or else tying powerful units up in melee for most of the game.

However, I've also had many games where they've been utterly worthless. Against Knights and Tau, I've had my Grots and Talos never even make it to combat because they were obliterated by overwatch alone.

My experience has been more positive, my Coven are often a lynchpin my opponents struggle to deal with (they're all super annoyed at Wracks coming back to life) and use of the Vexator mask is and absolute necessity to get the best out of them.
That said, I've also had great success with an airwing, triple ravager spearhead and a batallion full of venoms, kabalites and scourges/mandrakes.
