Help with army painter Empty
PostSubject: Help with army painter   Help with army painter I_icon_minitimeTue Dec 20 2011, 23:10

Hello,

I am not the best painter, by a long way, and was wondering if anyone on here has had experience using the army painter quick shade?

My DE are mainly a dark purple colour, along with Wyches skin.

I have researched as much as possible and understand how it works but what I want to know is,

Is it as easy as they make it look?
Will it work as well as I think it will?

Thanks for any help in advance,

Do a test mini. I find that basing them after is best. And for goodness sake don't do the flingy/flippy thing. Brush it on about 5 guys, then go back to the first one and remove from the recesses. Be extra careful of pooling on things like bikes and vehicles.

It's not my cup of tea, but I have seen very solid results with minimum effort. You could try to drybrush the models with a tank brush using a color like Codex Grey(or whatever in the hell they're calling it these days Mad ) to create highlights before you use the quickshade. Hope this helps!

I don't care for it, but I usually make my own shades so I am biased against it.

However, there are a great many painters who do not really care all that much so long as it is painted. This would be right up that line of thinking with regard to painting.

My two pain tokens

Thought about it (I LOVE their color primers), but haven't tried anything yet. From the photos I've looked at, it definitely looks to work better on models with warm color schemes or lots of deep texture. I'll definitely give it a go when I start my next fantasy army, which will be either Vampire Counts or Skaven - if only because I really, really want to speed up painting horde armies like those.

I tried it on a spare space marine and didn't like the effect. It looked like a coat of thick gloss varnish and whilst it did provide shading it also changed the appearance of the main colour of the model (red in this case).

Not something I would recommend personally but if you look at the tutorials and galleries on the Army Painter site they seem to make it work well.
