| Considering giving up the Raider I usually give Wych units to get 1/2 units of 15-20 strong Wych units on foot, with maybe even FNP from attached Haemonculi from the start.
Maybe use a Webway Portal, but experience using Foot+Mech hybrid style of play (Necrons, where nothing hides in the transport save maybe Warriors in Ghost Arks) It's been an eye-opener. I figure with Fleet the Wychs are pretty mobile even on foot, and generally safer to a degree with a Pain Token using Cover if need be (or getting cover from other things in the list even in the open)

| Well, if you consider that a raider with a ff is 70pts thats another 7 wyches, or 6 with a weapon. The real issue then becomes even with FNP, will they only take an extra 6 casualties when moving up the table, together with FNP I can see them surviving and with fleet they can still provide a great threat range (for a unit on foot).
I think the trick would be to not have it be the only foot unit, to have more that the enemy would have to focus on.

| The maximum size of a wych unit is 15 so don't try to field 20 unless you're playing apocalypse. Your opponent might give you the hairy eyeball I have used units of 15 wyches before. I make sure to have them come out of a WWP and put a hammy with them for the FnP. I was pleased with the effect they had on the table in friendly games. Not sure how they would fare in a tourney. | |

| I run wyches on raiders from 6 to 8 wyches. When put on foot I have only gone to 10.
Coming out of a portal, they have made it to close combat 50% on the turn they emerge. That is also counting the assault on vehicles as well.
Looking at those experiences it was more of getting them cover than ensuring they had FnP. However, using the Baron, the portal Haemys, a Cronos and drugs there was ample opportunity to ensure they received a token (especially if you expect them to charge vehicles).
Looking at enlarging the squad to 15 is attractive, of course I would love to see the extra wych weapon in there. I think the ablative wounds would help as long as you realize you can not hide them, you expect to lose a few to half of the squad if there is nothing to get "stuck-in" with and perhaps realize that you may end up sacrificing them if you charge a vehicle.
Of course this is all based on a very aggressive, 2 portal deployment system that warrants savvy understanding of the terrain, mission and deployment. It is also depends on what else is in the portal, what is starting on the board and a pretty good understanding of your opponents capabilities.
In other words its not a bad idea, mileage may vary.

| Even in apoc you can only use 15 in a squad, apoc still requires legal unit size just ignores force chart.
I am going to try 15 in a tantalus once I get mine assembled. Definitively will have to go for multi-charges

| Yeah sorry my bad about squad sizes, somehow I thought they'd be the same as Warriors from memory, lol.
Will tell you guys when I try 'em out. (1x15 or 2x 12-15) Again, I'm iffy about using a WWP because we all know we can't influence Reserves rolls so a bad luck streak = bad AND I see Cover+FNP anyway as rock solid for them. Even if someone tries to unleash all their ranged anti-infantry at them, you can still Go To Ground, which makes you Marines for a lil' bit till you really gotta get moving. Look at Scarabs, you don't ever want to shoot those until you know they want to be charging next turn something juicy, otherwise they'll troll you and Go to Ground and get 2+ Cover Saves just about anywhere.

| I think it's a workable unit, but by taking many of them you'd really be cramping yourself when it comes to cover. Despite FnP, Beasts tank shots a lot better. | |

| Anyone have any experience running larger wych units?
I have only seen them used once at a tourney, they seemed to be doing quite well for the guy. Dropped a few portals with heamies and then had one or two large units of wyches out of the portal.

| Re: cramping, not quite true; 1 - You only need half in cover to get the save. 2 - You can use your own units/vehicles to make Cover. | |

| With 6 such units I still think that's an awful lot to ask for, unless you're playing against the most static of armies. | |

| It really isn't, look at Orks, even without KFF many Ork players are smart enough to layer up and give themselves Cover Saves and the more rude ones do checkerboard formations. But, of course I didn't say I would be using 6 squads of 15, lol. | |

| Don't forget, if you stick a Haemonculus in there, they won't be fleeting. | |

| Sure they will, the Haemie doesn't stay with them, like any "upgrade" Haemmie. | |
