Help me make a weaker list.

Yesterday at my local club i was invited to come next fortnight to this guys house for a few games and beers with him and his 4 mates. He's not far from my house so i said sure. Then he says "you cant play your usual armies though". i asked why and he told me they don't play with anything like competitive internet lists. No spam or cooky-cutter, no full on mech.

They make scary lists and play competitively against each other for bragging rights and beers but try to avoid taking multiples of the same unit when they can. Especially avoiding the best internet tournament lists. This is not enforced by a set of rules, as he said i could take 3 talos out of a webway if i wanted, but just what they feel is keeping to the spirit of the game.

Im looking forward to getting back to the basics of the game like when i first started playing all those years ago. Me and my mates playing in the garage, taking lists we thought would be scary for the opponent and fun to play, not caring who won as long as it was an exciting game!

I don't want to get face stomped so im making a tough list but doing it without going all mech and as few multiples as possible and few cooky cutter squads like min sized units of trueborn and warriors with blasters. It's a fun new challenge for me.

If you play this way and/or have any suggestions on a 1750pt list please post them. I was thinking 3 talos out of webway as i said but all suggestions are welcome i can proxy where i have to...Thanx

hybrid list with harlies/bloodbrides/wracks - mix and match???

I tend to go with a really mixed list of Wracks, Wyches and Kabalites as Troops, a Talos, a Ravager or two, Some fun combat unit (Incubi/Grotesques), a shooting unit (Scourges/Trueborn) and a couple of combat HQ's. My opponents tend to enjoy the games. Usually have a 1-1-1 record at tournaments playing against really competitive lists.
Also, it's a little hard to help you make a weaker list without seeing what you usually play with Post your list and maybe we can help you tone it down.

Take Vect, the Dais, and 9 Incubi. It's completely impractical, a huge point sink, and probably wont do much, but it WILL draw a lot of fire and if you can get in range it would be pretty frightening. Snag a disint ravager, a normal ravager, and a talos and you have a pretty varied list. top it off with whatever flavor of troops you want (if you're going for uncommon, might I suggest Hellions?), and you have yourself the beginnings of a fun, impractical and rather scary list. If you're not worried about vehicle spam, your AT should do just fine.

What's the point range for that? For 1500, I usually go for a very mixed list of Archon, Haemie, squad of wyches in a raider, squad of kabalites in a raider, two venoms of blasterborn, Ravager, Razorwing, Talos. Then either two Beastmasters with ten kymaerae or something else. Makes for very fun games and gives my enemy some headache of figuring out what to take out first.

I would be taking my entire army and building alist on the night - basically getting it okay'ed by the guys

Somehow my cut and paste job cut off the Haemi. there is a Haemi with WWP, liquifier, and a venom blade in that list. I don't run Talos without them.

Is full WWP doable or do you really need raiders and venoms, as in your list, and just 1 or 2 units like talos and BMs running out of the portal?

I've never gone full WWP. You need a few units in transports to get the WWP into a good position. I really felt limited and hamstrung using just one WWP. Normally my list will use two at 175o or higher. Having two deployed at least 12-16" apart from each other really gives you options and screws with your opponents head a bit. You also don't have to worry about getting one surrounded(making it useless).
