Dark Eldar Price Increases, June 2012

Please note that this is FYI - these are GW's annual increases which are not at all unexpected. Rational commentary is encouraged.

These were posted by someone from BitzBarn over at BoLS yesterday. The entire list of 40K and WFB inceases can be found there, I have just focused on the DE-related elements of interest to us. I think I got them all.

These are US prices only, no idea how crazy other markets such as Canada and Oz will be yet. No exact date given yet, either.

Thanks for the heads-up! That's the extent of my rational commentary, my other commentary being "If I buy my two last Raiders tonight instead of a month from now, I can afford two foot-long subs, too!" Economics, my good Archons and Succubi, economics.

Oh. Ooooh. This means that Australians will be paying around $800 extra. We already have one of the world's freakin' strongest currencies, do they really have to punish us this much!?

I don't mind high prices (considering what I'm paying for, I am glad to pay it), but the Australian prices being almost 40% higher than basically everywhere when we have a really strong currency annoys me. I know there are economic reasons, but they should really only equal around 20%. I would like to buy directly from GW, I like the company (they do silly things often, but hey, forgive and forget), but I wish Australia would see more reasonable prices like the rest of the world has.

I don't see Ravagers on that list. I was going to buy two of them before the prices go up but I might buy a second battleforce instead as that seems to be going up by a ridiculous amount.

There's a note on the GW website (UK) to say that, here in UK at least, some prices are going up from 28th May. So be warned that, if you want to buy before the rise, you need to get in soon.

Phew just bought another Raider but looks like I need to buy my Razorwing before the 28th. I can barely live with the prices as they are. I love the game and my armies but if this trend continues I will have no choice but to quit. Already sold over half my armies already and only kept those I play seriously.
Not going on a shopping spree though, Raiders, Venoms and Troops are always a goid call but with 6th edition coming up who knows what will be used more?
Razorwing is just something I want anyway, even if just as a display piece.

An FLGS told me last night June 4th is the date here for the increase. I would assume that's for all of North America.

I'm worrying that I'm panicking over nothing, a part of me wants to buy 3 Razorwings to keep to one side, another part wants to buy some more Raiders for the exact same reason. Will I use them one day? Probably, maybe. Do I need to buy them all now?

Ppff... Increase the prices while I keep sending crappy finecast Incubi back. They have balls GW, I'll give them that. They know we are hooked, like the little miniature whores that we are.

Dark Sphere have a UK page up for all those who like to pay in £££'s, made it a lot easier to understand what the rises were for rather than sit there on a currency converter site.

Hmm, I am actually quite pleased with this. You have to look on the positive side, no 50pence pieces lieing about and an even number of pound coins if you pay for the Harlequins and Incubi with three ten pound notes.

Hmm, haven't seen Grot's listed here yet. Would be pretty stupid if they did increase them again, they did so last year and they are already double(!) what people pay just a few miles south across the US border. Literally.

Buuuut if you looked on the negative side they could of had a SALE (yes i hope someone from GW is reading this) so everything was even numbers that way. If it works for DFS it could work for GW. + sorry for ranting buuut a 24% increase on the grotesques, WHAT 24% when everyones unemployed and we are in the middle of a reccesion, 24%!!!!!! How am i going to afford this, someone should really point out to gw that we are not all multi-billionares. yes i will find a way to keep on playing but my armys only 1/4 finished

I think GW have done one sale, and that was when they opened their 100th store in the UK. Other than that I can't remember any sales and seem to recall someone from GW saying that they don't fall within their business plan, which appears to be to price themselves out of the market. £80 for the SM battleforce and they really think that parents are going to buy that for little Johnny just to get him started in the hobby?

I honestly think GW is approaching the tipping point.

I know, 5 price hikes from now continuing at the same rate of increase grotesques will cost £45, this means a 3 man squad of grotesques will cost £135! Just for a more extreme example (as if it was needed) the SM battleforce will cost £336. WHAT SORT OF SANE PARENT WOULD BUY THAT FOR THEIR CHILD!!!!

GW PLEASE READ THIS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD ---> if you do not stop these crazy price increases your company will collapse and you will all lose your jobs. The annual price increases may be a joke but they are NOT a funny one.

Grots doesnt cost 45, thanks the maker. They "only cost" 20$.

Beasts cost is ridiculous thou, playable squad costs as half my army.

i meant 5 price hikes from now with the 24% price increase that were seeing in the uk coninuing every year. (i based it on this)

Going briefly off topic, GW (in England) used to do vouchers in White Dwarf for store openings, for example on the day you could get £10 off 40k or WFB, or £5 off an army book etc.

There was also a massive sale around 1998-1999 and a year or two after that, I remember my local GW with bargain bins with blisters of Gorkamorka for £1 each, they also sold all the Sisters range for £1 each too, and Dogs of War.

And we also have a topic about GW pricing in GW General Discussion.

They can charge as much as they like for Grots: people will continue converting them out of rat ogres, crypt horrors, etc. (Indeed, maybe this is why Grots don't sell and need the price hike.)

I don't remember GW ever doing general sales, like other stores do, or even marking down old stock to clear (e.g. no chance of AoBR getting reduced when 6th edition comes out). They did once upon a time do some promotions though, such as special mail order bundles or store (re)openings. They don't even appear to do that these days.

This is a joke - another reason to buy GW models elsewhere.....or convert.
And just before 6th drops too....maybe the stuff that has jumped the highest will be be more valuable in 6th - hence no Ravagers.....

That would be typical of GW, make all the good units awful so everyone has to buy more. Shame i just bought a ravager as well...
