I love how they say on the website that the angular design of his armour is even sharper in Finecast. Wow. The most ridiculously simplistic character sculpt ever, now in increased detail, enabling you to see edges. Amazing.

| So $20 for two Khymerae is a price drop, but as much as I love the models I can't justify spending that much on two when I can get 10 Dire Wolves for the same price and slap some extra Chaos Spawn bits on them.
Same with $20 for a Beastmaster when $25 buys five Hellions to convert.
I hate the Razorwing Flock model, so conversion it is for them regardless of price.
BUT I will be buying a Clawed Fiend now. It's a very nice miniature, any alternatives will cost at least half as much, and I only plan to run one anyway (great for putting in front to absorb Overwatch fire).

That's a good point, with the new wound allocation now, the Fiend may actually be pretty useful. Hmm, I'm thinking a fully mixed unit would be rather cool. Of course, needing at least 3 Beastmasters means I will probably get the Hellion box instead, as you suggested. Perhaps a mixture of actual Khymerae and Chaos Hounds/Dire Wolves would look quite good. That still leaves the Razorwings. Maybe if you seperate the 2 Razorwings joined together and use the spare flying stand so you can have 2 bases of Razorwings, each with 2 birds on, from one set. I may have to buy quite a few round bases, given that I do decide to use a unit that is.

| Problem is that the Fiend never benefits from his high tougness. Shame, as I rather like the model. I like the Chimerae as well, but they're still too expensive. Maybe I should get 1 blister to mix with ym existing Chaos Hound conversions. Might also get another BM as I'm not that happy with my Hellion conversions (or alternatively I'll just do some more converting on them. Currently they're just Hellions with different weapons, but I could replace their heads with skulls and extra Scourge masks). | |

Yeah that's true but it is quite funny to have him just tank a couple of lascannon shots and then hide him behind Razorwings or Khymerae until combat. I'm not sure, it sounds like it could do with a bit of experimenting, I do quite like my current army and, even with the repackaging, it is a very expensive unit money-wise. I probably won't bother getting a unit for those reasons. Great idea about using spare Scourge heads for converting Hellions to Beastmasters.! You could also use the cool flail, spear, agoniser and knife in that kit as Beastmaster weapons. Just paint the agoniser as a standard whip and it could look pretty nice. So, yeah, go for it! It sounds awesome!

| I wish I waited for the Beastmaster and Clawed Fiend for Finecast. I too converted Hellions into Beastmasters (I used Chaos Ungor torsos to give my BM's a savage look) but wanted the regular one as a leader. He was so heavy he snapped both the stand in the socket and the base. I pretty muched tossed him in the bits box. Now that hes finecast I am not sure if I will be getting him....probably in the future to be used as I max out the squad.
Same with the Clawed Fiend, I glued him in the wrong place and now he's extremly top heavy. A new one in Finecast is nice and I'll probably pick up a new one of these up sometime as well.
I always loved the offical Khymera but the price was just too much for one model. 2 for 20 is a bit more resasonable and being finecast I know I will deffinatly be getting 2 of them, and as time progresses maxing out a 5 man squad, conversting the 6th as the Archon's "pet" laying on his raider.
I was very dissapointed with the Drazhar model. After seeing all those awesome necron characters I was hoping to see a new sculpt that looked like his image in the book.
Don't really think birds are intimedating I am still trying to figure out an alternative and slaves are nice.

| For an old DE model Drazhar is actually very nice. We will be seeing a new model of him eventually as he is one of the chracters that actually have pictures in the codex (those tend to get models first). Hopefully Baron too so I don't have to convert one (not that it would be that difficult, but the Baron in the codex has a cool coat and I don't think I could conver one). | |
