| Greetings gentle beings! It is I, Por'el Sa'cea Leo'lan Jhin, ready to once again bring you exciting news from the arena floor of the Dark Olympiad. With me, as always, is the scintillating Mistress of Blades, Lelith Hesperax! You may fall to your knees and worship, as is appropriate. Also, Kharne!!!I still can't believe you invited him.The Chaos representatives were quite insistent that he was the best man for the job. Meh.Okay, well, let's consider our two preliminary matches - The Masque versus a Space Wolf Wolf Priest. Wolf, wolf, wolf, wolf!...and a Dark Eldar Succubus versus a Master of the Forge. It should be obvious who is superior in that matchup.Let's take a look at our lineup, with expert commentary from these two masters of combat with me. ================================================================================= Succubus versus Master of the ForgeThe Succubus Weighing in at a sleek 100 points, the Succubus has brought both an Agoniser and a Blast pistol to this battle. So, what can we say about the Succubus? She is naked, and sucks! We could also note that she is pretty much superior in every way to the plodding Techmarine. She is more skilled at both shooting and hand to hand combat. In addition, her ability to Fleet will mean she'll be able to keep the fight either at range or up close whichever she prefers. Also, lest you forget, the Agoniser and the Blast Pistol can both cut through Space Marine armor as if it were butter. Sweet, sweet, butter coated proto-men...*Ahem* Yes, but shouldn't we point out that defensively she is rather lacking? Silly space elves, thongs aren't armor! Our armor is speed and cunning and-!My armor is a 3+ save, neener-neener!I hate you so much...Master of the Forge On the other side of the feild we have the ol' Master of the Forge. Coming in just at the 100 point weight class limit, he has to enter the field of battle with no additional upgrades. Also known as, basic marine stats...and a bolt pistol. Ooooh, hold me, I'm *scared*Servo Harness!Kharne does offer a solid counterpoint, the Techmarine's servo-harness hits so hard that it could cause instantaneous death to the Succubus. Presuming he manages to survive long enough to get there, and if you want to talk instant death...blast pistol, and she has the ability to keep the fight at short range for a while to keep trying for that shot.In conclusionOkay, so the Techmarine's optimal strategy will be to try to get into hand to hand combat as soon as possible and use his servo harness to try and crush the Wych to death. Meanwhile, with a wider range of tools, the Wych will be looking to perhaps use either her blast pistol or agoniser to saw through the Techmarine's armor and bring him down. She also has the advantage of fleet and her own combat drugs, to help her overcome his onslaught. Predictions? Succubus wins this one easily, she has more tools and a better ability to control the battlefield. I don't care that she doesn't really have any armor to protect from a round or two of bolt pistol fire. It's a bolt pistol.Hahahaha! I predict the Blood God wins, because Blood! BLOOD!!!...yes. Well, I'm going to say I agree with Lelith, I suspect the Succubus will be able to use very Tau-like techniques of hit and run to control the battle to her liking. ================================================================================= The Masque vs. Wolf Priest This is a very classic matchup, but I'm sure my collegues will have some balanced opinions. You let a minion of Slaanesh in here? Kill it! Kill it with fire!.Hahahaha! Slaanesh sucks! So do Space Puppies! Khanre predicts everyone wins by watching two wimps slap fight! The Masque Another battle of a quick and potent close combat master versus a more plodding Marine opponent, The Masque comes in right at the max points for the division, yet again, what are your thoughts? Between Fleet and her ability to take control of her opponent and bring him closer, the Masque ought to be able to suck the battle into hand to hand combat quickly, which is exactly what she'll want. Also, even as the truly wimpiest of all Chaos things, she still will have rending attacks and, thanks to the Crozius Arcanum, the most sacred weapon of the Corpse God, has been, appropriately, made unable to penetrate Chaos Marine Armor or anything equivalent. Bwa-hahaha!She's also just better in hand to hand combat, despite the re-rolls of the Wolf Priest, so...y'know, since he sucks at shooting and she'll own him up close and he's too slow to get away...seems obvious.Wolf Priest Also racking up at 100 points even, the Wolf- The Space Wolf Wolf Priest's Wolf Amulet will Wolf, Wolf, Wolf!As crude as he is being, yes, the Wolf Amulet is the Priest's only real hope. He has a lot of armor too, and he'll be able to take saves against all of her attacks...lesser saves on average, and she'll have more swings and all that, but she won't be able to just carve him up freely. His only hope is to hunker down and pray that he hasn't done anything improper to the Dice Gawd's Daughter this week.I agree, he sucks. So, in conclusion? Masque wins and She Who Thirsts gets a representative into the Sweet 16Yeah!-------------------------------------------------------------------- At this stage normally votes will be asked for - the votes aren't going to count this round, but you can toss them out anyway. Remember, any votes that aren't noted in thread prior to the results announcement will not be counted. The poll is there for people to toss out opinions at if they so desire, consider it a third commentator's opinion on who will win the fights. Results will go up Sunday, July 29th, for both fights - and the full Olympiad will kick off next week. - Boring rules explanation:
Most powers will operate the same in these battles as they always do - with some exceptions;
Fleet - if you have this ability you can, once during the battle, shift the distance either up or down one slot at any time. (e.g. Go from Short Distance to stay at Short Distance instead of going into Assault, or maybe go from Long Distance right into Assault with no Short Distance Shooting)
Counter Attack - You are allowed to use cover saves during battle and still count as charging in the Assault phase.
Pavane of Slaanesh - roll to use as normal, if successful works like Fleet above.
Acute Senses - no effect

| As it stands that techpriest is going to kick ass! Flamer and twin linked plasma pistol over watch for the win! He should have got a plasma pistol too for gunslinger with his plasma cutter. Yeah that's right techpriests can fire a flamer and two plasma pistols at the same time cause they're the BOSS! He would win every event!
I would have voted for the succubus if she had any common sense and brought a venom blade. Silly wych!
That or a Haywire grenade, because it would totally disable that servo-harness.

| If the votes here were going to be counted this is what I would have;
Cavash - Master of the Forge
Siticus - The Masque, Succubus
Mushkilla - Succubus
Siticus, as the only person predicting both fights, stands to earn 0-2 points. Both of the other two stand to earn 0-1 points.
Make sense?
@Mushkilla - the V.Blade would force more overall wounds, the Agoniser would deny armor saves.
6 attacks on the charge (5 if she uses cover)
V.Blade - 4 hits - 3.33 wounds = 1.11 wounds Aggie - 4 hits - 2 wounds = 2 wounds
The Aggie seemed the far superior choice.
I will say, the ability of her to bring Haywire grenades won't help much in the Lightweight division, but you will see some Weight Classes featuring Walkers and the like, where grenades will make a noted difference indeed. The format tends to favor more adaptable fighters (or, naturally, fighters who do one thing ungawdly well)

| Since there is no penalty for being wrong, voting is usually a safer bet than not voting. Though, again, this is just an example round to help educate people on what the rounds will look like - I figured it would help me explain easier than just posting up huge rule blocks of blather. (Oh, and Wolf Priest is a Space marine Chaplin...but with more options and better gear and abilities...and costing the same...GW balances things! | |

| But master of the forge has a 2+ save and Agi is AP3. So the succubus has no chance. On another note I'm looking forward to this. Can models change gear between fights?

| Ah, good point about the 2+ save, that's what I get for starting this project back before 6th edition hit (and here I was so clever with the Crozius edit too - meh).
I'll have to make sure to be on top of that in future uploads.
And, yes, models can change gear between fights as long as they don't exceed the weight class limit (in this case, 100 points or lower is allowed)

Great, DE have a good chance with their flexible wargear. If I were to pick one load out for "assault all comers" (so to take on any opponent, from orks, to walkers etc) in the 100 point weight category I would go for: Archon, venom blade, haywire, shadowfield - 100 I doubt a more all-round melee opponent could be fielded for less.

| Remember though, there are a potential for 2+ rounds of shooting.
That said, yeah, DEldar with their Fleet as an ability to control the battlefield will also do quite well in this format. And we are dangerous both with shooting and assault - our big concern is avoiding the ol' ID threat.

| succubus will dance circles around the techpriest, and the masque is just to cool a model to lose to the wolfie. I know, not a wargear dependant decision, but the masque is just cooler, (I run a converted one as a female haemonculous.....) | |

| If the Master of the Forge is the baisc one with no additional upgrades (so no sevo-harness with a flamer and a plasma pistol), the Succubus will win for sure. Even if he has them, the Succubus is likely able to use her fleet to assault from out of the pistol's range (and doesn't the servo harness pistol have even less range than normally?). In combat she hits first, has higher ws and ignores the Marine's armour. If the Marine survives, he can make one servo-arm attack that will instagib the Succubus, but he has to hit and she gets a 4++ save.
Masque sucks, so the Wolf Priest will beat the crap out of her. She has rending, true, but he is far more likely to wound, and unless she gets that 6 on wound, both have the same save.

Master of the Forge does come with a full blown servo harness (you don't buy it), with flamer and twinlinked plasma pistol (full range), and either a bolter or bolt pistol. He comes with artificer armour giving him a 2+ armour save so the succubus does not ignore his armour. Assuming he has the bolter to make the most of his BS5. The Master of the Forge can just move and shoot his bolter at 24". If the succubus tries to close he can easily dance at the 18" range where he can move in and shoot his twinlinked plasma pistol which has a 81% chance of killing the succubus outright. If the succubus does somehow get the charge, she will get D3 S4 auto hits, and what is effectively a BS2 plasma pistol shot. She then has to get through his 2+ save and inflict 2 wounds, the techpriest will then fight back with 2 S4 attacks and 2 S8 power weapon attacks. Against a ranged opponent he can even fortify the terrain he is fighting in for +1 to cover! As much as I love running a succubus. She doesn't stand a chance!

| The succubus should hang out at short range for 2 rounds to maximize the effect of her blast pistol, a smart succubus would do that, and should have no problem instagibing the MotF.
The second fight is a bit more questionable, but the woflguard should get 1 shot at long range, 2 shots at short range, and be almost even in CC (with the exception of rending). By the time the Masque reaches him, it should be nigh dead, and can't instagib, the wolfguard should barely be able to eak out the win.

Blast pistol has a 6" range, MotF has a 24" range bolter and a 12" range twinlinked plasma pistol both at BS5. It's not going to happen. Even if you gimp the MotF by giving him a bolt pistol instead of the bolter (he has a choice between the two). What's even more hilarious is he comes with krak and frag grenades, thanks to being able to fire a servo harness weapon and a normal weapon he could fire his plasma pistol and chuck a S6 krak grenade for extra fun.

| @Mushkilla - Ruke does have a better grok of the way the specific rules of this tournament play out. There is no real range, there is just short and long range. | |

| True, but I retract my statement. MotF has it. The artificer armor does it (unless we're using old PW rules, where they ignore armor completely), and the BS5 IS going to hit... one shot and Succu is gone. Even if succu makes it into CC, the likelyhood that she'll be able to finish him is pretty slim...
This contest is looking all things power-armored...

| techmarine should win. Being able to ID both at long range (Plasma pistol) and in close combat (servo harness) while the Succubus can really only ID him with her blast pistol. It wil be close, but the Techmarine just has more tools for the job.
Wolf Priest should beat Masque for the simple fact that him being S6 and hitting on 3s will push him greatly in the combat side. Also he still has a 3+/4++, which should help him survive the few rends she gets, while she is stuck with a terrible 5++
So...

| Yes I'm afraid the Techmarine will win. In close combat, the Succubus will get trounced, in shooting she dies to his plasma pistol so that one is an easy call, Techmarine victory.
The others I'm not sure about because I don't know the rules but I suggest a wolf priest victory, just because that's what everyone else is saying...

| Greetings gentle beings! It is I, Por'el Sa'cea Leo'lan Jhin, ready to once again bring you exciting news from the arena floor of the Dark Olympiad. Today we have two matches to consider. Indeed, blood shall stain the sands once more, cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!Who let the dogs out?Your out of date pop culture references fail to amuse me.Maybe if Kharn balled you up and drop kicked you across the arena it would amuse you?Ahhahaha! Listen to that witty repartee, this is the type of entertainment we are talking about. Let's just get to the murdering - because it looks like your favorite, and mine, a Succubus of the Dark City is stepping out onto the sands.Indeed, and it looks like her opponent, the Master of the Forge is also ready, equipped with more wargear than any sane man would use. ================================================================================= Succubus versus Master of the Forge Both opponents are ready now on the battlefield, it looks like the Succubus has claimed the initiative and is trotting forward, a wicked grin on her face as she injects some combat drugs for the coming battle. The Techmarine is just taking stock of the situation and raising his bolter... [Succubus rolls a 5 for Init and MoF rolls a 4, with adding in their initiatives we get a 13 and an 8 - Succubus will go first She rolls for combat drugs - 3, she will have +1 strength for this battle...huzzah?] Turn 1 - Long RangeThe Succubus can do nothing but trot forward, the Master of the Forge is yelling some sort of invective at her... Vile temptress of murder and despair? ::checks translator:: Bah, I think she's too experienced to fall for cheap flattery. This is going to be what all tau fights are like, right, pew-pew boring-boring. Want blood!Look, he's firing his bolter! [MoF fires one long ranged shot - 6, hit! and then 1...no wound!] It...it bounced off her bra...that seems highly unlikely. You think we wear those armored bras just for show?....yes? Wait, was this a trick question?Turn 2 - Short RangeClosing the gap now, the Succubus looks very eager to bring her Blast pistol into play. She should be careful though, the Master of the Forge is charging up the plasma generators on his Servo Harness...this might be the entire fight right here! No! No Tau fights! This is *true* combat my friends, settled at a manly difference with high powered weaponry that you can barely aim! WRRRRRRRRRRRRRY!?!?The Succubus fires first, laughing eagerly as she aims for his head... [5 to hit, 4 to wound...MotF opts to use cover and takes his save...3, no save!] And look at that, the dark matter shot has incinerated him where he stood, the ancient artificer armor he was wearing of no help to defeat the potent shot. Truly this is the height of combat skills! A somewhat crude finish that denied us much pain for the hidden pain collectors that will allow us to rule the galaxy once they're full, but I suppose it's better to make sure we get to the later rounds in any case.Hidden whats? Hidden rain collectors to...you know...let the slaves...drink...I thought your rain here was acidic or poisonous. Propaganda and poppycock...that all said, y'know, don't walk around without one of those radiation umbrellas we provided you.No disemboweling, but naked boobie lady goes to next round and a Marine dies, could be worse!Succubus Wins! ================================================================================= The Masque vs. Wolf Priest Here they are, the Space marine remains are being scrapped off the walls but it looks like both of these contestants are ready to start now! You can hear the cheers from the Slaanesh section of the stands from here! Yeah, Leo, those aren't *exactly* cheers. Why what else could that loud and rhythmic grunting and squealing noise be? Here, let me adjust a viewfinder here and....oh...oh we can't show that on television... Hur!*Ahem* In any case, The Masque, as always, is dancing up a storm, showing off her agility and athleticism. Looks like the Space Wolf is showing off something as well...There's a full moon on the rise!I'm pretty sure that's impossible to do in power armor. Nah, I give Tau wedgies all the time whenever we fight and...wait, quick question, you guys - having metal torn up through the midsection of your bodies, fatal or not?The Masque looks like she's taking advantage of the Wolf Priest's distraction and is trying to start the fight early. [Initiative rolls - Masque rolls 3 (10) and Wolf Priest 4 ( - Masque will be leading the deal in shooting] Turn 1 - Long RangeBoth of them are just trucking straight forward, clearly they are intent on getting to grips with their opponent. Turn 2 - Short RangeLook at this, can you imagine the speed of The Masque? She's already assaulting! Pffft... sooooo slow[The Masque triggers her Fleet power to move the combat immediately to Assault Range - no need to mess around with letting any Wolves get off a pew-pew shot.] Assault!Yes! Oh YES!!! I don't even care if it is the wuss Chaos God, Let's see some action! The Masque opens up with a blinding array of attacks, she is just a sinuous and...sexy...and scintillating... ::Lelith throws some water into his lap:: *Ahem* Thank you. In any case, the Wolf Priest appears ready for her, he is howling songs to his war gods as he meets the ferocity of her attack head on, truly this is what he was born to do- I thought it had something to do with dog chow...As the dust settles it looks like The Masque is nursing a nasty shoulder wound, while the Wolf Priest is striking a Matrix pose and telling her to 'Bring it' Burn![Striking at Init 7, The Masque goes first - 5 attacks on the charge, hitting on 4s = 4, 1, 2, 1, 6 2 hits, she then gets to try to wound on 5+ = 1, 6. One rending wound! The Wolf Amulet comes into play = 4, no damage Swinging back, the Wolf Priest has 4 attacks on the charge, needing 4+ = 6, 4, 2, 4 - Preferred Enemy = 6 reroll 4 hits will need 3+ to wound = 6, 2, 3, 6 3 Wounds on a 3+ save = 3, 3, 2 = 1 wound to The Masque!] Assault Round 2The Masque is charging in again! Not good, she's dropping her wounded left hook low, and the Wolf Priest is using that opening, his rage fueling the potency of his strikesIndeed, he catches one of her claws and repeatedly strikes her across the face with his Crozius. Potency, repeated strikes with his Crozius? Are we doing euphamisms again? Kharne can do euphamisms too. Now he is still hitting her...IT'S LIKE SEX!... ...Kharne is like an unappreciated snowflake in the storm of life.[The Masque opens up the brawl with 4 attacks = 2, 4, 4, 4 3 hits = 1, 2, 2 Wolf Priest responds with 3 attacks = 5, 1, 4 reroll = 6 3 hits = 1, 5, 1 Masque save = 1] Oh-ho! Look at that! The Daemon goes down, drawn back into her dimension by large purple tentacles that I am sure will perform no action uon her that is remotely to be considered inappropriate! It's moments like this I can figure out why you people thought Urien was just trying to "help" you versus the Tyranids. Wolf Priest Wins! A fascinating opening gambit, we saw one servant of the Imperium go down, and another advance to the next round. Masque got a bum rap, not that it's a surprise that she was getting wonky with the Dice Gawd's Daughter.Kharn also has to admit, he think Succubus lucked out-I'm pretty sure that's called strategy, Kharn.Strategy? Oh, yeah, that's what I call carrying around a black hole water pistol with me. Your codex is so cheap. Now, now, I think it's time to enjoy the roar of the crowds and prepare for the upcoming battles. For very soon we'll get to see The Succubus back versus Inquisitor Coteaz, as well as a Haemonculous versus a Commisar - which should be a very exciting fight. Plus another Daemon, The Librarian, will try its luck versus the Necron Illuminor. That's nothing! We also have the super classic Warboss vs. Space Marine Captain fight - now that will be a classic!I quite agree, a great season is in front of us...assuming you don't kill each other first. I wouldn't put much money on that one.Yeah, I'm honestly trying to figure out which of you it would be funnier to kill first....ah...*heh* See you next time folks! | |

I wasn't sure how you were going to roll for initiative. I thought it would just be a d6 roll off, this does make a large difference, combined with how the range brackets are digital and not analogue. High initiative is worth it's weight in gold. So a lascannon and a bolter would both be in the long range category am I correct? So there would be no reason not to take a blast pistol over a blaster as they are in the same range group? I thought there would be a clever way to ensure the dark kin win. - Quote :
- Wolf Priest responds with 3 attacks = 5, 1, 4 reroll = 6
3 hits = 1, 5, 1 Masque save = 1] Objection! As an un-official Olympic martial I'm going to have to step in here. There seems to have been foul play! Watching the replays it seems that the Masque wasn't quite dead yet. GAaaaahHHH! ++++|| THIS MARTIAL HAS NOW BEEN SENT TO BE SERVITORISED DUE TO FAILING AT READING AND COMPREHENSION. HAVE A NICE DAY ||++++
