Well Last Time I had my first "6th ed" game... turns out it was more like 5.2 ed...
Anyway, after getting my hands on a rule book I studied up (not enough) and brought the fight back to my foe! 750, I used
120- Archon w/ Power Axe, Blaster, Shadowfield
130- 5 Warriors w/ Blaster; Raider w/ Nightshields
135- 5 Warriors w/ Blaster; Venom w/ Dual Cannon, Nightshields
135- 5 Warriors w/ Blaster; Venom w/ Dual cannon, Nightshields
115- Ravager w/ Nightshields, Dissies
115- Ravager w/ Nightshields
He took a 4 Destroyers, a Lord with some crap (including a res orb) 2 Crypteks and a fist full of walking metal zombies, packing guass this time.
Anyway Rolled for Vanguard and some other stuff, small map, so we rolled with 4 random value objectives (worth anywhere from 1-4pts, to be discovered at the end of the match). Nightfight first turn, he went first. We had started late so we rushed through the set up and everything else.
Turn 1 - He moved forward and couldn't see anything so that was it. I moved around and popped some shots. Most everything came back because he misunderstood the Resorb rules and we didn't catch the mistake till later but I still got first blood.
(apparently save the image wrong... none for turn two)
Turn 2 - being distracted by my failure to properly remember how nightfight worked I wasted my ravagers, which were promptly failed saves and both exploded... ruining my orginial plans. Shooting for him was good with what few guns he could bring to bear. Shooting for me was minimal, I allowed the loss of the ravagers to distract me and forgot a number of shots I should have taken.
Turn 3 - was a much better turn for me. He put an extra hit on my raider and wiffed with the rest. The venoms put out a good deal of torrent and removed a few models for me, including the last destroyer.
Turn 4 - his shooting did very little this turn, God bless the Night Shields! My shooting was also less effective that I would have hoped for, only 1 stayed down.
Turn 5 - We agreed, due to the hour, we would end it after this turn. He sat in his bunkers, popped my raider, no deaths there. He also took one of the splinter cannons of one of the venoms. I disembarked around the two fuel dump objectives and rushed the wounded venom forward and snapped off as much as I could since I could not get close enough to contest the last objective.
End count, because we chose to roll for the value of objectives, a tie. His two objectives (2+4) for 6 pts to my two (4+1) + (First Blood) for 6.
All told, I felt ok, once I started to get back in the game, I felt I started to gain the upper hand again. Need to keep playing so I have a better grasp of all the rules. I should have played further out turn one and focus fired things better while mitigating my exposure. All in all, fun noob game full of mistakes. Hopefully next time around we won't be as rushed.
