I fielded the Below killteam this past Monday as the kickoff of a campaign.
4 Incubi (Klavex w Bloodstone) 118 Points
5 Wychs (Hekatrix w Venom Blade, Haywires) 75 Points
Total 193 points
Went 2/1
1st Match was against a Black Templar Sword Brethren Squad with Full Terminator Honors, Storm Shields and Melee Weapons. Rolled +1 Strength with Drugs. We kind of raced at each other to see who could get the assault first. My Wychs were able to assault first, and that helped. The combined assault of the Incubi and the Wychs ran them over. 2 Wychs were lost, no Incubi died. The Klavex killed 1 with the Bloodstone during the shooting phase of round 2. My Wychs charged first, the Hekatrix killed 3 with the Venom Blade (All 4 attacks hit, all wounded due to the rerolls from the +1 Strength, only 1 Armor save made). Normal Wychs hit 3x, 1 wound which was saved. The Incubi then Assaulted and finished the remaining 2 off.
2nd Match was against a Necron Force of 3 Canoptek Wraiths and 5 Deathmarks. Rolled extra Attack with Drugs. The Wraiths were able to assault first, 2 on the Incubi and 1 on the wychs. The Klavex was able to get 1 wound on Overwatch with the Bloodstone. The Klavex then killed that first one during its initiative phase, while the remaining Incubi Wounded the second. The Wraith then killed one Incubi. The Hekatrix wounded the third Wraith. The Wychs melee attacks hit/wounded 2x but were saved. The Wraith then killed 2 Wychs. During the next Assault phase, the Incubi and Wychs finished off the wraiths. We then moved toward the Dethmarks which were holed up on the top floor of a Ruin.
On our way in the Deathmarks killed 1 Incubi and 2 more wychs leaving the Hekatrix remaining in her squad. Leadership test was passed. The Klavex Bloodstoned the Deathmarks, killing 1. Both the Incubi and the Wychs assaulted. 1 more Incubi died due to Overwatch. The Hekatrix, Klavex, and remaining Incubi finished off the Deathmarks. No reanimation protocols were made.
3rd Match was a 2 vs 2. Wound up getting paired with a Squad of Emperor's Children Terminators vs 2 Space Marines Squads (Dark Angels and Ultramarines). Reroll to Wound on Drugs.
Our Gameplan was for the Children to pin down the Angels while I used cover to move in and assault the Ultramarines. However, my partner did not measure the ranges of his weapons properly and as such was out of range for all 3 shooting phases (He went the entire game without shooting a single shot or even engaging in CC). Thus the Angel player decided to ignore him and joined up with the Ultramarines. They all had long range weaponry and were able to wipe all but one Wych on Turn 3 using Rocket Launchers and other heavy long range weapons.
My partner then failed his leadership test and fled the board leaving my single Wych who promptly surrendered.
What I learned:
- For a 200 point game the Incubi were pretty much unbeatable in Melee, and steamrolled everything they went up against. I felt like the Klavex was overkill, but the Bloodstone was worth its point cost as it gave the squad a limited overwatch capability. Going to replace with Blasterborn w 2 Shard Cannons on Monday and I think this will work much better vs the Marines.
- The Hekatrix was a true beast as the Venom Blade made sure that her attacks wounded almost every time, and led the night in overall kills.
- Never partner with someone who yells out "Porn for the Porn God!" every 5 minutes...
