Talos Outfitting Empty
PostSubject: Talos Outfitting   Talos Outfitting I_icon_minitimeSat Nov 10 2012, 18:54

so, i know that the Taloi are slow, but i was planning on using them with a WWP.
use a Homunculs on a venom or raider to get them into the enemy's troops fast.

But any ideas for outfitting? i wanted to give it chain flails and was thinking
of twin haywires. thats for incase of any tanks getting too close and extra CCW.
can someone direct me or tell me about the liquifier guns? i couldn't find them
in the codex or the main book.

thank you,

Dark Minion

Liquifier Guns are in the codex, top right of page 61.
It's also on the weapon chart at the back of the book under Arcane Weaponry.

As for how I would equip it, probably with Twin-Linked Liquifiers (twin-linked flamers are nice) and probably leave its Splinter Cannon alone (as it's the longest range weapon available and it's great vs Infantry). I might change it to a Twin-Linked Heat Lance (short range but most deadly Anti-Tank) if I was sure I'd get close enough.

My problem with the Haywire is that it's only going to get 1 shot a turn. Haywire is at its best at glancing a vehicle to death but with just one shot it's going to take many turns (without outside help of course but any outside help, Wyches or Scourge, can usually glance things to death on their own so the Talos is only really going to be an opportunist anti-vehicle weapon with the Haywire). I'm also not a huge fan of chain-flails because it's hard to ensure a talos will get into close combat so spending even more on its close combat ability seems a bit eh. Still if you're set on melee that's likely the best option for the cost (the extra CCW costs too much I think).

Nowadays I equip my taloses with twinliked spintercannon, and liqufire.
Its great vs inf of any flavor, and if a vehicle gets to close, charge it and destroy it, talos is a monsters creature after all. If you could charge out of a wwp, chainflails would be fantastic, but, toasting marines in low ap flames just feels wonderfully.
A note of wwp, I always place mine on the table from turn 1. The monster with a liqufire just draws a lot of attention from missile launchers and lascannons, leving my transport in a alone.

I like to run twin-linked liquifiers and splinter cannons for the reasons people have already mentioned.

But also because the splinter cannons are by far the best weapon when it comes to getting an early pain token on the Talos as it's great for finishing off squads. The twinlinked splinter cannon is also a fantastic anti FMC weapon and should easily force grounding test. Finally I see the Talos as an area denial unit, and the splinter cannons are great when it's camping an objective and lets it still contribute to the fight. Smile

Thank you all for your fast responses!!!

since of how i am planning to use the talos, from what
i read and researched, the twin liquifier sounds like the most fun with
the twin splinters.

i'll leave tanks to my wyches and scourges!

Check out this thread:
http://www.thedarkcity.net/t4161-talos-weapon-load-outs-in-6th?highlight=Talos+loud

I used chainflails/TL Heat lances in 5th, now that we can't charge out of the WWP I will be giving them TL liquifiers over the chain flails.

Topic moved. It is far better suited to the Dark Eldar Tactics section.

Cheers - Cavash

Twin Linked Liquifiers and Splinter Cannons is what I use, too. I find it great for mangling any infantry unit.

Well, I'm not the most experienced using Talos. Only have one old metal model :p But are buying a few new one's myself today actually and have been thinking of the loadout.

Now I want a fairly comeptitve balance in it, but again a Talos isnt as competitive as Ravagers and stuff, but still...

Anyway I started looking at my options and then the two first things I did was remoev Splinter cannon and Liquifire guns as options. Why? Well in a coven army or even a army with Talos, you are really going to struggle with AT. We struggle with it even with a Kabal skimmer spam army, so this is even going to be worse.

Then really it is down to Heat Lance vs Blaster.
Lance = 9" Threat bubble,
Blaster = 24" threat bubble.

And its clear that within range that lance is better, and blaster have been nerfed in the last edition. But when you are within 9" of a veichle is it really needed to have the lance? I dont think so tbh. Because you are most likely able to charge it anywhy, and with it beeing MC and S7 the veichle is most likely going to die. So for me I found blasters to be the choice to land on.

CC weapons I havnt decided on but properly chain-flails.

Remember you get a Free S7 hammer of wrath hit against vehicles, so you will always get a minimum of 1 auto hit and two S10 AP2 Smash attacks on rear armour. This for me has made the heatlances and the chain flail options somewhat moot. The heatlance only being really useful when you come out of a portal. The twinlinked liquifier is beautiful, as it's a binary weapon, it either won't kill anything (meaning you can charge) or it will wipe out the squad, meaning you don't have to charge. Great for flushing things out of cover and defending against deepstrike. Very Happy

I recently bought a Talos as it is a fantastic, nightmarish looking model, probably one of the most horrific looking things GW has ever made ! I deployed it against my friends Ork speed freak army as a replacement for my Razorwing fighter (as general rule if my opponent isn't bringing flyers then I won't either, it make for a more enjoyable game) and it was a rampaging beast! I equipped it with TL LG and a stinger pod. I didn't make use of the stinger pod as most of his boys were in vehicles but it still managed to kill swathes of Orks, his big Mek and truk. It picked up three pain tokens in the process and only lost one wound, its a tough monster of a unit.

Take the TL LG and whatever tail weapon you want but I recommend sticking with splinter cannons. If you have the points to spare take an additional CC weapon.

You can't take liquifiers and chainflaills, it's one or the other.

Ya, I thought you could as well, but it says "replace one CCW..." so you can't take an additional CCW and then upgrade them both. Sad

I think the Chain flails are great if you intend for this thing to get into Close Combat (which you should, because it's a unit smasher). If you want somehting more for support and target softening then the TL Liquifers is the way to go.
I think 15pts is a bit much for +1 Attack, but you will wish you had taken it when you roll that "1" on your D6 attacks.

Ichor injector looks great, but most things that don't get insta-killed by the S7 have a good chance of passing that Toughness test.

I'm not sure how to arm mine...I might just make it a Cronos...
