PostSubject: 1750pt first 40k list.   1750pt first 40k list. I_icon_minitimeThu Nov 22 2012, 10:42

Hey guys, let me start off by saying I have only played a few games of 40k with borrowed armies, so I am open to any and all suggestions, not only in regards to how Dark Eldar work but also in regards to how 40k itself works. I tried to get a good mix of anti-tank and anti -nfantry in the list but without much experience I am not sure if I got the ratios right. I am worried I have too much AT and not enough AI or vice-versa. I will be playing gray knights with either blood angels or imperial guard as allies but I want a list that will do half decent against any army. So here it is:

HQ
Succubus - Venom Blade
70 points

Succubus - Venom Blade
70 points

Elite
3 Trueborn - 3 Blasters, Venom w/ extra splinter cannon
146 points

3 Trueborn - 3 Blasters, Venom w/ extra splinter cannon
146 points

Troops
9 Wyches - Raider, Shardnet & Implaer
160 points

9 Wyches - Raider, Shardnet & Implaer
160 points

5 Kabolite - Venom w/ extra splinter cannon
110 points

5 Kabolite - Venom w/ extra splinter cannon
110 points

110 points

Fast Attack
6 Reavers - 2 Heat Lances
156 points

6 Reavers - 2 Heat Lances
156 points

Heavy Support
Ravager
105 points

Ravager
105 points

Razorwing
145 points

Total: 1749

Thanks for the advice.

Edit - Replaced 1 Homunulus with 2 Succubuses, took out a squad of blasterborn, increaced wych squads to 9 (from Cool and added shardnet and impaler, fixed the kabolite squads so they are legal and added a third, removed all flickerfields.

You need 10 models to get to equip the SC. But switch it with blaster insteed.
I would have less wyches tbh, and get HWG on them if you really wants to use them.

I have 6 troops myself on 1750, quite simulare list, but 1 less blastborn squad and beasts insteed of reavers. but still it looks good if you make it legal Wink

Unfortunately Kabalite Warriors can't have Splinter Cannons when they are only 5 man groups, they need to be 10+ so those two units will need to be changed. You can swap them for blasters or leave the squads plain. Either way works.

The other thing I'd mention is you probably don't need the flickerfields on the Raiders/Ravagers. As long as they have moved that turn they get a 5+ jink save anyway. You could save ~50 points by dropping them which would be enough to buy something else.

Finally, what are your plans for those wych squads?

Wyches by themselves aren't really all that great a fighting squad. They kinda need help if you want them to win combats. Swapping the Haemonculus for Succubus could give them a better chance as the succubus adds more attacks (maybe while being armed with a venom blade or agonizer depending on how much you can afford). You'd want to give both squads a leader though.

Another option would be to trim them down to 5 man squads in venoms with haywire grenades. They won't be able to fight well but they will blow up a tank really well if you get them close and more venoms are always good.

Either way is fine (boosting them up or sliming them down) but as they are they don't seem like they'll do alot for you. Just something to consider.

Wyches need to be in large numbers to be effective- if you have enough of them they will munch through everything but they are not a unit that hangs about for long. With all those wyches I think you would be ok as long as you gave them haywires. I run a wych heavy list (at least 30 at 1750) and they do very well. If you gave them all haywires you could drop a ravager and get a 10 man warrior squad to help with objectives- I think you will ahve sufficient AT with haywire wyches. Also giving them a haemocules helps them stick around for a while.

As just a pointer with 40K and Dark Eldar- golden rule is don't spread your army out thin- dark eldar don't like being hit back so sticking them all close together and hitting with all of them along one side of the board and ignoring the other side temporarily is often a game winning strategy. If you hit hard enough with everything there will be less to hit back-simple.

Best of luck and welcome to Dark Eldar!

Thank for all the advice so far everyone, I edited the list above. I added two Succubus(es/i?) with venom blades to lead my Wych squads which I gave a sharnet & impaler to. I am hoping to use them to slow down big scary things like a dreadknight or my opponent's HQ (if this is a bad idea let me know now haha). I also took out a squad of Blasterborn to make way for another 5 Kabolte Warriors in a Venom. I also removed the flickerfields because of the save the ravagers and raiders will get from moving.

I considered making the wyches 5 man squads with haywires but its more cost effective (money wise rather then points wise) for me to do it this way.
Thanks again.

Don't try and tarpit the dreadknight unless you really have to- you have splinter fire to do that job for you- shardnets are not that useful you would be 10,0000% better trying to give them haywires instead and sacrificing some points elsewhere- when you play with them and you realise that 5 wyches > Landraider you will be very happy

I would drop the Shardnet & Impalers in favour of a Flickerfield on the Razorwing (which means you don't need to go into evasive manoeuvres and can keep on firing) and whatever else for 10pts. Haywire Grenades on the Succubi perhaps?
