Example: (Ork Opponent)10 shootas and a warboss (IC) are in 1 squad together. My kabal warriors shoot at the squad and manage to kill everyone but the warboss(IC).
Do my warriors get a pain token because they killed the initial squad? or because the warlord was attached i would have had to kill him aswell in order to get the token?

you killed a squad, therefore would get a pain token.
The IC counts as a seperate unit, and therefore would give you a 2nd pain token if you killed him.
