| I'm currently building another warrior unit, and considering using a shredder for light infantry duty. Does anyone have any experience or feedback about this weapon? I'd love to hear from more experienced Archons | |

| Unfortunately it's range, small blast and competition in the form of the blaster mean the shredder should be left as untaken. Now if it was a flame template.... Different story | |

| I would totally field it if it used the teardrop template. | |

| I have used multiple squads of Trueborn with full complements of 4 Shredders, along with 4 or 5 Shardcarbines. They can be very effective against groups of Marins, and also vehicles and walkers. IG parking lots can be fun, with the blast just having to touch something to hit it.
But their range is a major drawback, I wouldn't mix them with Shard Rifles because of that, nor would I use just one in a squad.
There are better options, but if you want to try them, go ahead.

I know right! I would also pay the same as a blaster for it in this case!

| What's a Shredder?
Is it the thing you cut the end off of and add the nozzle from a Blast Pistol to make a Blaster?

| Lol, so basically shredders are a little underwhelming unless you build an entire unit around them, and even then Dark Eldar hardly struggle for anti-infantry anyway. I guess I'll just do what Sky Serpent suggested and cut the end off to replace with a blast pistol | |

| I used a squad of shredderborn for a few games. They did a surprising amount of damage, even without the Venom. However, they are a dedicated AI squad in an army that pumps out AI without even trying. I'm not sure I can see a shredder as-is doing all that well in a regular Kabalite squad. A small blast is just inaccurate enough to make me leery of it, and you aren't likely to get much under it even on a hit. My success with them was at least partly due to using them against bunched-up squads in a decent quantity. | |

| i use shredders in a few of my kabalite squads with pretty good results. that said, my regular opponent is a marine player and i'm used to dealing with MSU squads. they are pretty good for multiple coverage but there are better weapons if you want to take on hordes or put out a decent amount of firepower. | |

| Funny, the fluff makes it sound like a smaller version of the night spinner that the Eldar use. If the Shredder did the same thing with difficult and dangerous terrain I might be more interested... | |

| I dislike small blasts in the best of situations but when that small blast is also short range and AP- then nobody will ever convince me it's worthwhile taking it. | |

| For me, the main problem with the shredder is that the situation at which it is best suited(shooting at horde infantry within 12") is also a situation that I try to avoid with my fragile DE units. I definitely have my units pick fights that they can overwhelmingly win at close range, and a unit tightly packed infantry doesn't scream "Easy pickings" for me. | |

| should have added as well, i also use my shredders on reaver jetbikes and get them behind my enemy's vehicle line. back in 5th blasts used to be against the rear armour regardless of the firer's position. now, it has to be the facing, which sucks but at least with jetbikes they have the chance to get behind and pick on the weak armour. they are a decent weapon against hordes and lightly armoured troops, but its range lets it down big time compared to the blaster and heavy weapons the squad can take, especially as blast weapons can't fire on overwatch either | |

Reavers can't take shredders.

| I have tried shredders twice in my history of 40k. And both times, the blast template deviated back onto me and killed my trueborn or the vehicle it was in. very embarassing... | |

| What about using them with scourges? They could pop transports and low av stuff or ai in a pinch. Scourges could deep strike to just about where u need them too. Seems unreliable tho... but food for thought | |

The problem with Scourges, or pretty much any DE unit come to think of it, is that they already have better AI and AT options available to them. Splinter fire will almost always be more effective than a Shredder against infantry and blasters or heat lances are better AT.

| Im thinking of putting one in 2 10 man warrior squads so when I use rapid fire it can be included, I may do it next game. BTW can rapid fire be used after a transport has been moved? | |

exactly this, when wyches could take special weapons too and you could have an archon/archite on a jetbike too. now these models serve as glorified squad leaders and/or jetbikers with trophy weapons those were the days. they have been nerfed a bit, but they can still be useful.

yes but it depends on their speed and fire points (OTV can fire all their weapons bear in mind). upto combat speed count as moving, cruising speed can fire snap shots only, flat out or smoke launchers not at all. hope that helps

| The only issue's I really have with the shredder is that it has a small range. I take one in every squad of warriors for more AI shots. I've used them in every game and almost always, they hit something. I know the lack of AP makes it underwhelming but it's fun to have as a 50/50 kind of thing. From the games I've played, the people have learnt not to bunch everything together in case a blast does hit, so that less models are hit, which means if it scatters, there's still a chance it'll hit something.
If anything, I use it to force armour saves.
