Does anybody use Shredders?

I am planning on putting shredders on use as blasters... Dont think im going to go on merging them with blast pistols, though. Just going to tell myself they are blasters that look a little different

I sometimes think about taking shredderborn to clear parking lots of transports or walkers (Sentinels, War Walkers) since now the blast hits at full strength all the way out, and the AP - is no longer a negative. Give them haywire grenades so they can charge if they leave the main target on 1 HP, and hope for some lucky scatter to put hits on adjacent vehicles.

Then, as others above have said, I remember that there are a ton of better ways to accomplish the same effect

i like the idea of shredderborn vs orks mobs of guys how can you miss and can glance almost any vehicle. given i don't build list to fight one opponent I'm saving mine for some custom warp spiders.

I regularly use a shredder or two in my army. The reason is that when I need to free some points for whatever option I can't afford, one of the first things I do is take a warrior squad in venom and replace the blaster for a shredder. Blasters in venom squads tends to never worth their points for me, so I found loosing 1 or 2 isn't a big change.

And I must admit that I'm pretty pleased with this. My opponents are much often worried about the blast template of the shredder than the single blaster shot, so having 1 or 2 shredders give me some psychological advantage.

I used shredders in every unit of warriors back in there 3rdlike edition codex. The way i see it is: you spend five points so that one warrior can hit half a squad(potentially) combined with a splinter cannon, shredders are very viable in my eyes.

Not for nothing, but its also only ONE guy who can't fir a shot that he might just miss. You still have 7 warriors and a sybrite with rifles anyway.

i use them in my 5 man kabalite venom squads, just because of how cheap they are.
they only have to kill 1-2 models to make their points back and every once in a while they'll over perform. and if they get killed it's not to big a loss.

Shredders used to be hot in the old days, because our splinter fire was less effective.
Now our splinter fire is so effetive shredders have become useless.

The main reason for having shredders in an army now, is for the fun of it.

The range is a problem, the cost is still ok.

I've tried a fun unit composed of Trueborn with 4 shredders, short range, but quite some firepower.
The S6 shouldn't be completely ignored. NO AP, but effective against low armored units, thinking about orcs for example. I've also found this unit good against low armor groupes of vehicles, the no AP is a problem, but because of the S6, you still manage to do some damage, even with the scatter, you usually for land some shots on a vehicle formation.

A shredder on warriors is completely useless, they need that blaster too much anyway. I sitll gave one of my squads one, but purely because I wanted to have one new warrior with a shredder equiped.

This gun was quite needed and useful in the previous codex, but now it's more of a fun gun ,it's not used much either.

I have taken a trueborn squad with 4 shredders and 2 splinter cannons quite a few times. They have performed awesomely each time.... though most of the times I have used them has been against guard blobs or tau so maybe it was like a best case scenario type of situation.

Never used them and never will(at least with the current dex and edition). I do not think they are expensive but I like some range between me and my enemy. And yes I use them to convert more blaster also...

There is nothing wrong with shredders that giving them the 'monofilament' rule from Codex:Eldar wouldn't fix.

i also don't really have a problem with the range on them either, cause really your gunna want to be in rapid fire range to make best use of the splinter rifles anyway.
