Thor 2 Baddies - Dark Elves

So I'm surprise there hasn't been a thread about this yet…but there have been pics floating around from Thor 2 which is currently filming.

The villians are Norse Dark Elves from Outer Space… cough, cough, Dark Eldar.


This probably the closest we'll ever get to see Evil Elves in Space, so I hope it's cool



It looks like they are goign to do some CGI enhancement around the eyes. I hope it looks cool!

Stills never quite do sci-fi costumes credit I almost always think they look unfinished when not in motion. At present the silver and black costumes remind more as much of the Borg as what we DE fans would prefer they look like. I would like to see the segmented armor actually have a non-metal color and emphasized a bit more. It would appear some CGI will be done on the eyes. I was never a fan of Thor in the comics so I was completely unaware of an evil space faring elven race led by a character named Malekith. Go figure. Is the name taken from mythology or fable?

I think it's from Norse mythology. He's also appeared in the Thor comics long before GW ever got round to fleshing out the Dark Elf race.

See above. Malekith appeared in Thor comics in 1984, long before GW appropriated him.

EDIT - Kind of annoys me that GW bang on and on about their precious IP and insist on copyrighting everything and yet all they are doing is ripping off pretty much every myth and fable from history. I'd like to see the Vikings pay a visit to Alan Merrett to discuss their IP. With axes.

Thank you! A lot of negative reactions to these costumes but people are not seeing them as a final product, Properly light, in motion, CGI enhanced eyes, etc. They will look awesome on screen I'm sure.

And yes GW totally ripped of Marvel comics and Norse mythology for WFB. The modified it for Space for us

Nicking stuff from other sources is practically a games workshop prerequisite, but so what? If it looks cool and it's not copyrighted, go ahead! After all, where would our hobby be if Tolkien had copyrighted the elf/Orc concepts!

Seriously, when this is released they'll look very cool, anyone have any complaints about the job they did for Thor 1?

It's not so much the nicking stuff that annoys me. It's the holier than thou attitude when others do the same.

Ah yes..."See a new company using something that has Marine in its name or has a gun that looks like a bolter as a weapon" ......Send in the lawsuit, that a copyright rip off on GW stuff.

So what do you think of the dark elves after seeing the movie? In the end I couldn't care one way or the other Tom Hiddleston stole the show as Loki.

Archons would laugh loud on this "Malekith". Typical super villain complex.

I loved their creepy masquerade faceplates- it's just the sort of thing I'd want on my DE. And of course their blackhole grenades and primordial-darkness-bloodstone-thing (I love the Avengers franchise's obsession with rocks of immeasurable power- the Casket of Infinite Winters, the Tesseract, the Ether... and there's still 4 more!). Of course there was very little substance behind them and Malekith might as well have been a cardboard cutout for all the depth they gave him (i.e. none- what a waste of a perfectly good Christopher Eccleston). But aesthetically, I loved 'em (besides the slipper-looking boots)

While watching Malekith and those "Dark Elves" I instantly thought Dark Eldar and just now saw this post and remembered to share. All their tech just felt so evill.

I love the grenades they used. It was like the warp ripping people apart. The entire time I was like DARK ELDARRRRR in my head haha.

Those grenades reminded me of the description on our void mine.
