Last sunday I played a 2K battle with a friend of mine, and as he don't like to play highly competitive list, I decided to give a try at a coven army list. Here was the oppsing forces :
- Quote :
- Bloody Quicksands coven :
- Archon with PGL, huskblade, soul-trap, drugs and shadowfield.
- Haemonculus with liquifier gun and WWP.
- Haemonculus with liquifier gun and WWP.
- 9 Grotesques with 1 liquifier gun and a flesh gauntlet for the abberation.
- 10 Wracks with 2 liquifier and acothyst, embarked in a raider with NS.
- 9 Wracks with 1 liquifier, embarked in a raider with NS.
- 4 Wracks embarked in a dual SC venom with NS.
- 10 Warriors with blaster, SC and sybarite, embarked in a raider with NS and weapon rack.
- 10 Warriors with blaster, SC and sybarite, embarked in a raider with NS and weapon rack.
- Talos with liquifier and chain-flails.
- Talos with liquifier and chain-flails.
- Cronos with probe and vortex.
I'm not sure those talos builds are legal, but i think you can replace the additionnal CCW you can buy with something else. It's quite expensive as you have to pay for both the additionnal CCW and the upgrade you want.
- Quote :
- Slaanesh Marines :
- Chaos lord on a steed of Slaanesh, with a power claw and the burning brandon.
- Chaos biker lord with some equipment (don't remember what)
- 5x Noise marines with blastmaster
- 5x Noise marines with blastmaster
- 5x Noise marines with blastmaster
- 6x Noise marines with death siren and power sword, embarked in a rhino.
- 10x CSM with 2 meltagun and power sword, embarked in a rhino.
- 10x CSM with 2 plasmagun and power sword, embarked in a rhino.
- 5x Bikes with 2 plasmagun and a power sword.
- Heldrake with baleflamer.
- 8x Havocs with 4 plasmagun and a power sword.
- Predator full lascanon.
We played a custom scenario with 1 objectives each, and a single relic in the middle of the field.
We both rolled on the strategic warlord table he got the acute senses and me the night fight.
Deployment was vanguard strike with, obviously, night fight on turn 1.
He won the deployment roll and let me start the game.
As I had the first turn, I deployed one haemonculus in the wrack's venom, and the other in the 9x wrack's raider. The two talos, the cronos and the grots with archon were in reserves.
He deployed everything except his heldrake and his squad of havocs + lord on steed which were doing a flank attack.
Turn 1 DE : Nothing exciting in my army. I just turbo-boosted the 10-Wracks raider forward, dropped the 2 WWP and killed some marines/bikers but didn't manage to get the first blood.
Turn 1 CSM : He moved the plasma CSM squad in the middle of the battlefield in a crater but their rhino got stucked in it so they disembarked. His bikes turbo-boosted to block my left-most WWP (he surrounded it completely so I couldn't use it to deploy reserves). He destroyed my 10-wrack's raider and killed all wracks but the acotyst and a liquifier with other units. He also destroyed one of my warrior's raider, killing 6 in the explosion.
Turn 2 DE : Everything came out of reserves ! Great ! As one of my portal was blocked by the chaos bikers, I was only able to use the second one so the rest of my army just poped out of it. Fortunately, it was not too far from his objective. I manage to kill the entire bike squad (including the biker lord which was tougher than expected), stun the predator and nearly annihilates a full noise marines squad. My 2 lone wracks tried to flame a full squad of CSM but the liquifier only gave me AP5
Turn 2 CSM : Sadly for him, none of his units came from reserve. Suddenly facing 9 grotesques and 3 MC, he started to make a strategic retreat with some units to minimize the amount of close combat in the following turn. Consequently he only killed my 2 lone wracks and the 9-wrack's raider who were pined down.
Turn 3 DE : Even with his strategic retreat, I was able to do some CC this turn. My grotesques charged the predator and 2 noise marines behind some barricades. Surprisingly, the predator didn't suffer any damage but the marines were killed easily. One of my talos charged the central CSM squad in their crater and killed them all, only loosing 1W. Meanwhile I killed another squad of noise marines with all my splinter weaponry (including the 2nd talos, granting him a pain token).
Turn 3 CSM : His flanking havocs with the lord on steed arrived, but still no Heldrake. However, as there was nothing interesting near the table sides this squad didn't make anything usefull this turn. The rest of it's army fired, destroying only my last warrior raider.
Turn 4 DE : My squad of grotesque stayed near my opponent's objective and just destroyed the predator in CC. I started to capture the objectives. My previously pined down 9-wracks squad begin to move to the grotesques which were holding my friend's objective. my first squad of warrior get the relic in the middle of the field while the second warrior squad made a retreat to my own objective (i had my small 4 wracks squad in venom nearby, but with the heldrake coming its not enough to be secure. The cronos and one talos moved forward while the second killed an immobilized rhino nearby the crater.
Turn 4 CSM : The heldrake arrived (obviously). His army managed to put a talos to 1 wound and killed my warrior squad with the relic. Meanwhile, the heldrake killed everyone in the 9 wrack squad except the haemy and the acothyst. He also kept the noise marines unit with death siren not too far from his objective.
Turn 5 DE : My wracks in the venom disembarked to capture my objective, my last warrior squad ran with little success. The grotesques were of no use and just positionned themselves to contest his objective. One of my talos managed to charge the havoc squad (killing 4) while the other killed the lone sarge.
Turn 5 CSM : The helldrake killed my 4 wrack troop near my objective with vector strike. The noise marines with death siren disembarked from their rhino and slaghtered my poor squad of haemy+acothyst. And in the CC phase, he killed my talos with it's havocs.
Game ended :- I was denying his objective with the grots while not having mine (no troops were alive).
- The relic was uncaptured.
- He had the first blood but i had the linebreaker (both our warlords were alive)
So a clear-cut tie !
I really enjoyed the game because coven-themed list have a very different gameplay. The cronos played his role giving a pain token nearly every turn, the talos slaughtered many things and my opponent feared the big bad grotesque squad. The only thing that i disliked were the wracks as i found them useless. 6th edition really hit them hard (no more +1I with furious charge, FNP dropped to 5+ and it's now hard ot charge in cover without fleet or something).
