| Admittedly, I am lifting this from a thread I made on Warseer a few months ago but would prefer to get some feedback from people who are more on my wavelength.
~
When I started my Exodites, within the first week I had fully realised and decided upon my ideas for objective markers and a funky turn counter. Even with my Skaven I thought up some interesting tunnel markers and unique templates rather quickly.
Really struggling for the Dark Eldar.....
The only real idea I have is a unit of Guardsmen or the like being led like a chain gang through a portal; and even then I can't decide on it (what 40k kit would be easiest to convert walking casually, heads down?). A weapons cache doesn't seem to fit the theme for me and a fallen hero seems so cliche.
I need five SOLID ideas for objective markers of varying sizes, two of which should be defensive plus an idea for a turn counter.
~
It might be relevant for me to say the army is themed around Duke Sliscus and has no Haemonculi (for now). A torture table with a guardsman 'plaything' who is pulled further apart one turn at a time would make a neat turn counter but probably wouldn't fit the theme of the army all too well.
Corpses to recover isn't a bad shout but needs to become a stronger idea.
The cage is cool but a tad too big, my chain gang going through the portal would probably be the biggest piece, maybe on the mumak sized base.
I've used the Dark Eldar Prisoners for other things in the army and I (shock horror) have ideas for pain tokens, based around my friends armies; afterall your friends are going to have spare heads for you to impale.
~
I think I have just decided on my turn counter. For my exodites I was planning on having an Exodite Dragon (Cold One) chasing Catachans who were carrying away eggs. Looking at the new Beastmaster stuff I have decided against the idea of including the models purely on cost but I think a Clawed Fiend chasing some Guardsman would be quite fun. An oblong base with the Guard at one end and the Fiend at the other, on a track where he is moved forward one turn at a time.
Think I'm settled on the Guardsmen being led into the portal idea, perhaps with the new Succubus behind them.
~
My confirmed ideas so far are:
1. Imperial Guardsmen prisoners being led through a Webway Portal.
2. Guardsmen discovering a skinned comrade hanging from a tree with a Wych wearing the skin as a coat.
As two of my regular opponents will be Orks I think some Grots making off with looted Dark Eldar weaponry would be cool, though I think sticking to Guard would be better.
~

| Slaves. I have slaves for my markers, made from the Empire Flaggelents box, though I imagine some grots being whipped by a a Wych or Warrior would be pretty cool.
I don't like the idea of grots stealing Dark Eldar stuff. What competent Archon would allow any filthy lower beings to dare touch his property?

| I don't have a scanner, so I can post my notes on my objective markers, which I haven't even started to make yet. That's a good and bad thing. Good because you can't see my horrible drawing skills and bad because you can't see what my sketches were trying to convey.
Xelkireth's Objective Marker Notes: All objective markers are on 40mm bases. Marker size was agreed to by local club.
1. Shadowfield generator: Upturned keelblades with the sharp edges of the keelblades facing out. Three or four keelblades on the base. Sometime of spherical device in the center of the blades.
2. Blood Angel massacre: Take one of the space marine casualty models and drill holes for the spike polearms from the raider kit to fit. Four to five spiked polearms impailing the dead Blood Angel.
3. Slave girls: Either just the Vect slave girls or add to the Vect Slave girls the slaves from Hasslefree minis.
4. Torment Device: Two shock prows glued together with the pipes facing out. Extra raider underhull blades added to the edges of the shock prows.
5. Terror Amplifier: A mutilated guardsman hooked up to a giant amplifier. Spikes, tubing and vials hooked to the guardsman running to the amplifier.

Mind if I combine the two ideas? I have a dastardly vision.

| These ideas are AWESOME!!! I'm totally going to steal the slaves going through a portal idea!!! I use a lot of Haemonculi in my force, so I had also planned on some esoteric items, like a heart/body part in a jar, or a collection of left hands from various races. | |

| A skeleton wearing a Guardsman helmet and slumped inside the torture cage from the WFB Giant kit. It could hang from part of a tree or a lamp post, with a bloodied Hellglaive leaning up against it.
For your Ork opponents, some rebellious grots gloating over a dead Ork who has very obviously been felled by DE weaponry.

That is a beautiful idea. Consider this snatched. Indeed. How very fitting then that I have that cage. Supposedly, that could do as a pain token too.

| Tooth picks and two 25mm bases could make a cage rather cheaply. Cutting off the tips and gluing them on the bars could give it that spiky look that almost required of by the DEldar. | |

I'm still working on concept sketches. I want it to look more Sci-Fi/Horror than the fantasy cage on the giant.

| Use some sort of a round top for the cage, make it suitibly tech-y, then use the toothpicks for the bars, and paint them to look like laser bars, or even better get some of the clear tubing like in the necron guns.

| You know, cages are so barbaric. What about a circle of electrified blades, with the guy trapped in the middle. | |

| No, he can get out whenever he wants, as long as he can endure the agony of walking past the razor sharp blades while being burned to a crisp.

| Since I do lack in skill to make convertion for marker, I made my from spare shock prow from raider/ravager. Add some splinter rifle, corpse/head, ect and you have nice objective for games. | |

Poster tack will help, GrenAcid. Seriously. It saves money and cash on trying to see if things fit or look right. If you ever need any help on conversion ideas, and this goes to anyone, feel free to PM me. Tell me or show me what you got and I'll give my two cents worth.

| Well, I intend to use slave girls for objectives and pain token markers (I've been looking at harem collections for the objectives). I do not intend to use Vect's girls because honestly, they look really ugly (like, "GW sculptors do not know what a woman looks like, so they sculpt men with wider hips and basketball-sized boobs instead" ugly). | |

How many objective markers should one realistically (need to) make?
