PostSubject: thoughts and questions in my beginning phases of playing deldar   thoughts and questions in my beginning phases of playing deldar I_icon_minitimeSat Mar 23 2013, 03:57

Hello everyone!

So I have just recently picked up deldar as my second army in life. I just recently played my first game against an extremely tank heavy IG army (this was a nonconventional game as well, he did use a baneblade as part of a 2k army, but i still think my thoughts are fairly valid). While this is atypical of most games, the friends I play most against are IG among a few others. So I felt like I wanted to voice some random thoughts and maybe a question or two...

-ordance barrage from a squad of basilisks hurts like a mother...cover? sucks when you examine cover from the center of the blast...also the range on a basilisk makes it tough to get to quickly enough...even with all our speed

-going second against ordance heavy armies also sucks, espcially those barrage weapons, your transports though in cover manage to take some damage and become stuck for a turn and you're dead

-wyches are great with those haywire grenades...only got a chance to get them up against tanks, they didn't live long enough to go find an infantry squad

-warriors are fun to shoot with from boats... Very Happy ...until your boats die

-Lelith is hilarious until you realize her strength really doesn't cut it in the slightest...I was facing a blob squad of guardsmen and the 4+ to wound was saddening (I'm used to playing space marines for the last 10 years)

-Has anyone used a blob squad of warriors behind an aegis defense line or in a tower? Figure 20 guys behind some nice cover could do some good holding an objective and have a decent field presence with anti infrantry weapons

-the razorwing (my only heavy support so far) is very dangerous with its basic build...also nice that it doesn't sit in the open first turn and get beat up. I know lots of people run ravagers...but I would think that it would suck to not go first and have them be vunerable...razorwings/voidravens mitigate this by not being on the field turn 1...running 2-3 of these could bring a much needed 2nd turn punch in the areas you desperately need help with

-i need more lances and i really need to go first

these are some of the first thoughts I've had after my first game. Does anyone have any thoughts, comments, suggestions? I played with other units that many don't use such as hellions and sourges. They are pricey but I felt that the scourges were the most fun to play with. I didn't get the chance to get the hellions into CC unfortunately.

Thanks guys,
ligs

You've already said it - You need to move first or it can be a world of pain against any decent ranged weapons.

Holding objectives with DE can be tricky in my very limited experience. Better to just kill everything and take them by default Twisted Evil

I also use hellions - mainly because they are cool to look at and fun to use even if they are perhaps not the most effiicient use of points.

Try having 3 ravagers, and take vect at 2000 pts, you stand a lot better chance of going first, you could also spam wyches with haywires, go flat out towards his lines using enhanced aethersails there is no way he would be able to kill them all and they would absolutely destroy a column of tanks, not to mention if you got close his blast templates would scatter onto hi own vehicles.

yea that is true, vect would help but hes a pricey unit, also I'm trying to build an army that avoids the 3 ravager spam, i want something different from what everyone else does I suppose, hence a ton of flyers and such...i'm also thinking about that forgeworld catamaran vehicle that looks sick. Load that up with 15 warriors and massacre infintry

I have a tantalus Smile , best way to get it into a normal list is with a court of the archon, they can take it as a dedicated transport. Then it will not take up a valuable heavy slot, our main issue is anti tank turn one.
The only decent way we have of doing this is with ravagers unfortunately, you could take 3 reapers Twisted Evil when they hit a vehicle they do tend to kill it, they can instant kill monstrous creatures and they also threaten infantry with the strength 5 large blast. Their main problem is the one shot but they are alot more fun to play with I find, I also have two of them lol.

I know vect is expensive but he is a beast in close combat, will kill 4-5 models a turn that have 3+ armour or worse.
