A new tower rises!

Archons, Succubus, and my fellow Haemonculi I bid greetings,

Yes it is true, I have returned to the hobby after a break for 5th edition. My previous experience was as Marines in both 3rd, and 4th, and so while contemplating returning I started thinking of non-Marine armies to get a different experience; however, the dark Vengeance chaos fig's are just so exceptional I felt sure i was headed to the dark gods.

Then while trying to look at fluff and back story, which for me is important because otherwise you just have fancy painted chess pieces, I found a site with a 'which army are you poll' only to stare at the screen when it displayed the Results: Dark Eldar. I found 2 other sites with 40k army polls, and noticed a curious pattern : Eldar / Dark Eldar 100%

Long story short I discovered this fine site, and lurked for a day and a half chatting, and asking questions, looking at threads, and getting acquainted with the lore of the nightmares in the webway. My main hesitation was the seemingly lack of a larger than life figure. That focal centerpiece for the army, not simply a large vehicle, or the new flyer in a tall stand.

I wanted that bad mamma jamma, that the opposing army saw, and rightfully feared. Having been away from the hobby, and not knowing stats, nor rules this may have been a bad choice to base my thought process on, but hey.. We play better with an army that sings to our soul. That siren call of excitement that extend beyond tossing dice.

Then in a Bat Rep from youtube I saw it... A Talos!

The more I looked up this engine of pain, the more the grin spread across my face...

So that is basically my story. Yesterday I went to my local store and dropped cash on the following:

6th Edition Rulebook ( damm that tome is big n heavy )
Dark Eldar Codex
Battleforce
Box of warriors
Raider kit
Box of Reavers
Ravager kit
Nightwing kit
Succubus in fincast
Lhamaean in fineccast ( they had no Archon, so she was to become my conversion )
and of course a Talos pain engine

Then after coming home, and reading a little of the Codex... I found myself on GW's site ordering:

2x box of Wracks
a few figures to make my Haemonculi conversion ( because hover Jeazuz in finecast is.. uh..well...yeah )
3 books so I'll have something to read getting familiar with the lore while paint / washes dry

I look forward to long and decadent raids, and getting to know the others here.

Now I only hope my painting skills haven't rusted away to complete garbage.

Talos are loads of fun, and can work well if you build your army right, in fact I used two of them in my last game (Battle report is in my signature under latest). Enjoy your stay.

And thank you again for the Bat Rep. I'm tossing units, and numbers into various lists.. not really knowing synergy, or pairing yet.

Your force, and my current models range at least helps me get a better grasp..

And your maps add a very nice touch, really helped me see the strategy unfold.

Talos, Taloi, Talos', they are wonderful creations. I currently only have one, but there will be more - or at least more things that can be used as count's as variants when I'm not using bizarre homebrew rules. Just as a mention mine withstood a 10 daemon squad of bloodletters, 3 screamers and then flamers one after the other - and not getting the charge on any of them. Toughness 7 is a godsend and even when I forget that they are fearless and thus it fights at WS 1 or that they have Smash and thus have it hit with AP - they have never done me a disservice.

As one who favours the Engines of Agony I would also recommend a Cronos... Ap 3 is not to be sniffed at, and I believe it has been said elsewhere that a Cronos handing pain tokens to a Talos is a fantastic combination.
