In Dust We Trust

Having quit 40k (again) towards the end of 3rd edition, I'm getting back into it (again). I'm readdressing my old Dark Eldar: the new models are absolutely gorgeous, but I feel like I should focus on painting and playing with the toys that i already have, at least for the time being. In many cases this will involve converting and/or repainting models I initially painted ten years ago, but I'm going to start with models that I never painted (or played with) the first time around.

And I'm converting the whole thing to have a Burning Man theme. I'm aware that there's not a lot of burner/wargamer crossover, so not a lot of people will get this (including my entire local gaming group). Hopefully they'll still be able to appreciate the conversions and paintjobs even if they don't get all the references to burner culture.

I cannot stress enough how excited I am about this project.

Wonderful madness...

Here's some pictures of the playa I took at Burning Man in 2011. I used these to try to get the colors on the bases right. (In my memory, the playa was just pure white, but I think that's not completely accurate.)

I'm aware that if everything were to scale, the bases would just be flat and off-white, but I think the exaggerated cracks are more interesting.

I'm pleased with the extent to which they look like complete drug-crazed lunatics.
This unit took me about three months to convert and paint, so at that rate this is going to be a very slow-updating plog. Nevertheless, my next project will be to pimp the wyches' ride. I wasn't sure how to approach the raiders until I realized that they were basically art cars. Therefor, in addition to having burner wych crew, the raider should have speakers for blasting dubstep (despite every other raider blasting different dubstep) and also be a fish.

Whoa! Those look insanely awesome, like straight out of some 80's post-apoc flick! Stellar paintjob, this looks incredibly promising and I'd love to see more of this!
