| I have 2 boxes of Finecast rangers/pathfinders that I've been planning on turning into DE whathaveyou. This was an old project that never took off but seeing that the allies option is going strong right now I've decided to keep them how they are. Alas, I do not have the new CWE codex. Have the Rangers changed much in the new codex? Has anyone fielded them as allies yet? What's their entry spot and points cost? Thanks.

| For me, Rangers are not that good anymore. They have stealth, infiltrate and move through cover but they can't really benefit from Battle Focus as they're using heavy weapons. Their guns also got worse and are just plain old sniper rifles now. I can't give you point costs as that is against the forum rules.
Personally, I'd leave them at home.

| They are a lot cheaper though. So not a bad option for a backfield scoring unit. | |

| FYI: Battle Focus still works with Pathfinders' Shuriken Pistols...
Pathfinders also get Precision shots with them...
Roll any 6s on those and... Allocated AP2...
In a sense, they may be deadlier in pistol range than they are at long distance...

In a sense, they may be deadlier in pistol range than they are at long distance... Good catch! I remember that the Vindicare used to be able to pull some nasty pistol tricks in 4th - shooting two different squad leaders in two different squads within 12'' was always a barrel of laughs.

| Have been considering pathfinders as well. How well do you think they will work when paired with Nightspear? Would it be better to have them separately, or all in same bunch? (didn't want to start a new thread so...) | |

In a sense, they may be deadlier in pistol range than they are at long distance... The Rangers do not have the Sniper special rule so No precision shots with their pistols. They do however have Ranger sniper rifles witch have the Sniper Sp rule. Also the title "Pathfinder" is gone. Only the Tau get that title now. The Rangers are just straight up Rangers. No upgrades possible unless you pair them up with somebody..... Illic Nightspear might be good.. -Jack-

| So I didn't read Illic's rule "Master of Pathfinders" on pg. 92 under his profile?

| Looks like you did. That's quite a ladder to climb for a 1 pt upgrade. No thanks. - Balisong wrote:

I just picked up the CWE Codex about 7 hours ago and haven't gotten through all the details. At first glance, rangers looked like they were a stand alone dealy. Humble. -Jack- 4a.
