Advice for facing Grey Knights

The problem with this match up to me would be that they seem to excel at everything compared to anything we have. I am looking for some advice, tips, and tricks for facing them.

Where does our best bet lie? Assault, Range, or Hybrid?

I do not wish to ally or use only venom spam. I just don't like the idea of allies or pure MSU. I don't mind a couple msu, but pure msu lists just bother me.

What is better massed splinter, dissies, or as many lances as possible?

There is probably another thread like this, but I couldn't find it.

What specifically are you likely to be facing? There are several different common builds for Grey Knights, ranging from Draigowing to Coteaz Acolyte spam. Advice will of course differ for each of those.

I believe he will be spamming psycannons and will have some twin linked razorbacks. will be playing 1000-1500 pts. not sure who he is taking as an HQ at 1k, but at 1500 he will have draigo.
I know he has one dreadknight, he also mentioned purifiers and interceptors. One more thing I hate the idea of is the ADL. I am not 100% sure what the list will entail at each level, but I know he loves talking about his purifiers and psycannons

Well psycannon are 24" range, as are most of his ranged weapons. Shame you don't like venom spam as a few venom cannon plinking away at them from 36" away will be annoying as hell for him to fight against. The razorbacks are likely to be his longest ranged weapons so you'll need to take them out with darklight asap and then just mop up his troops whilst staying out of range.

so cc is a bad idea, if I field a ranged 1k list I will have 2 venoms, 2 ravagers, and 2 raiders. one venom will have blasterborn the other is just warriors with a blaster. my 1k list has 14 lance, 8 of which are 36"; also has 32-36 36" splinter shots. think that could work?

Watch out for the Psyflemen dreads, 4 twinlinked S8 shots at 48" range a piece eats through our transports like nothing else. Once they are dead you should be ok.

Psycannon spam is the rock to venom spam paper, although because Matt Wards Grey Knights must win all games, they can move them as assault weapons....

so it sounds like I need to learn all his ranges and weapon strengths, for target priority. Only thing I am having issues choosing is whether i should drop a warrior gunboat for a wych raider, drop the warrior venom for a wych venom, or to keep it all warriors and ranged with no cc capability. I am a bit wary about having no cc ability, but if it just isn't an option I can learn to deal with it.

If he likes Purifiers they will absolutely murder you in cc. I'd steer clear.
