DARK ELDAR NEWBIE - Help with Army build

Hi, I'm new. I would go ahead and say something about myself but there is a profile for that!
As said in the description im new at the entire game and still learning even the rules but so far i really like it and cant wait to master it!

I really need help with building an army list to start... So far i got the battleforce which comes with 10 Wyches, 10 Kabalite Warriors, 3 Reavers, and 1 Raider. I also had purchased an Archon. Next i was thinking of picking up some more troops. Although, my experienced Warhammer40k BF has said it may be better to get another transport or elite unit.

I would really appreciate the help and/or advice. I read the codex but still im not sure what works the best in game since im so new at playing. I mostly play with my BF to learn before i annoy others.

Hello there! Welcome to TDC and glad you are getting into Dark Eldar. I just started a year ago myself and I did a ton of research to get started but I made my mistakes of course along the way of getting units. I would suggest you give this a read through:

That way you may be able to glean what kind of army you may want to lean towards. There are lots of options with how to build a list. Something you may want to consider is how many points you want to collect up to initially. What would you play with your friend in an ideal situation? From here its easier to start looking at the units you like (whether it be for looks, gameplay, or whatever) and determine a nice fun army. The link I gave you looks at the strengths and weaknesses of every unit in the book. Its not the end all be all of pros and cons though and you can certainly try your own combinations and tactics!

Based on what you got (I myself started with 3 battleforce boxes and a handful of other units). I would say it may be nice to get another Raider so that both your troops are in boats. Another good option would be an incubi squad in a venom, or a ravager. I think these would be good places to start, also another troop choice is not a bad thing at all. The question you want to answer is what kind of troops do you want to pursue. I think that you will find most people here like warriors currently, though wyches certainly do have their benefits!

Designed under 6th, I think the 'tactics' section is more of a basic bit of math hammer, but it's useful math hammer. Also, in my opinion, is too open with his takes on most units, but at least does offer interesting possibilities with all of them.


At the moment you're clearly in a very general mindset of what you want, so the broad stroke guides I think will serve you best for general ideas on how to build and what to field.

Welcome to dark eldar my freind i also play CSM. Now Dark Eldar and CSM have 2 completely different playstyles. Ones strong and tough and the other is blindingly fast and uses speed to manipulate your opponent's actions to an extent.
Now in terms of starting out i would say buy the battleforce its a good buy.
You get 10 Kabalite warriors, 10 wyches, 3 reavers( they are exetremly fun and very manipulative against your opponent) and 1 raider. You can then build upon there. Happy wargaming;)

If you already got the BF heres so options

- If you want max board control get reavers they are really good at that
- if you wana bog down infantry get venoms and more raiders along with kabalite warriors
- if you want anti tank then get ravagers or bring more raiders
- if you want a balance of all three then take more than 2 troops and probably add a mix of 3
