| First post on the forums here, so a generic new user greeting is in order I suppose. Hello fellow space pirates, moustachioed evil doers, and misshapen-ed harbingers of very bad things! Now to business.
I just started playing 40k via some friends of mine, and only have 3 games under my belt. I've picked up and assembled the battleforce and HQ but I would like to expand to 1000 points and join in on some competitive games at our local shop. This is what I'm thinking:
Duke Sliscus - 373 9x Trueborn -7x Shardcarbines, 2x Splinter Cannons Raider
9x Warriors - 161 -Blaster Raider -Splinter Racks
9x Warriors - 161 -Blaster Raider -Splinter Racks
Razorwing Jetfighter - 145
6x Reavers -2x Heatlances
Tactics wise, the plan would be to hold the one of the Raiders in reserve, and then attempt to deepstrike (in hopefully a clear spot on my opponents side of the board) on turn three. Other than that, shoot and kill a lot of things as fast as possible and hope that I can grab some objectives in turn four. All criticism welcome as it should help me gauge if (A) this is a solid enough list to start buying and poorly painting more things and/or (B) I'm just a crazy person and have no idea what I'm talking about. Cheers!

| as a new player this is the list I would suggest
Second Post
its my beginners list for 5th ed, and it still works wonders in 6th.
As for your list, it isnt bad, but Duke's splinterborn unit takes some getting used to and some practice to handle well. Thats alot of points in a fragile body. I would play a few more games before I try that unit out.

| Thanks, and noted! The splinterborn squad with Sliscus is expensive, but I only included it because I did a few scenario tests with my friend and his wife using Orks and Space Marines respectively. They owned a 30 man squad of boyz with a nob while taking fire from a bomber(?). Although, I got really lucky with my rolls to save the raider. They also did well in two tests against a squad of marines with a rocket launcher and a squad of terminators simultaneously, I did lose half the unit in a vehicle explosion in the first run through.
As far as tactics and practice is concerned, any insight you could provide would be appreciated. I did a search for splinterborn in the forum, and came up nil. Would it be better to post a new topic asking for advise in "Dark Eldar Tactics"?

| Are you not gonna miss AT with only 3 raiders, a razorwing and 6 reavers ? The razorwing may come only at turn 3, where even if reavers sound really nice, if you loose them, you're really gonna have to pray for your rolls on your raider's DL to be good. Especially since you have only 3 targets ( the raiders ) + the reavers on the table as you don't use some venoms. | |

| for tactics, just take a stroll back into the tactics forum. We have a ton of random articles in there. Sadly there are mostly just as they were talked (and have never really be co-ordinated and sorted together)
As for practice, playing games is the only true practice. The more you play, the more you will understand how to use your army effeciently, no matter what it is composed of. Ive been playing for a long time, and even I make mistakes, so it is always a learning process. Just get some games in (even in small pts levels) so you get the best out of it
