| So I've been toying around with the idea of building a cult of pain worshipping, blood drinking force, all about Khaine's worship through slaughter, bloodshed and drinking the blood of their enemies. Predominantly a close combat force, I want them to capture that bloodthirsty feel and have a touch of vampiric nobility about them. The lesser troops will mainly be made up of wyches, and I would like incubi as well for the same reason of keeping the bulk of the army a close combat force.
That said, I also want to include some shooting so the army isn't crippled from the start and I'd like to include Eldar allies in the force as well so I can have an Avatar(their "blood god"). I was thinking wraith-units to represent some kind of elder Dark Eldar who march forward with disdain at having been awakened from their slumber and reap the blood of their enemies. My other idea was Striking Scorpions for their melee brutality.
As of the moment though, that is about as far as I've gotten with the ideas for the list and any help to keep the theme but still make the army good and playable, and even fairly competitive is very welcome.

| I think if you want "fairly competitive" to enter into the picture when appraising any potential list, you'll have to defer a force based around DE CC units. Conceptually I think this sounds great, but don't get hung up on winning if your list is based around Wyches and Incubi.
Playability is pretty broad, but I would suggest some Venoms (four? at least) if you want to stick with the "close strike" theme.

| I can deal with "just playable" as this is more a fun/conversions themed army for the most part. That said, I'm open to suggestions on making the army a more competitive one. I am not completely opposed to having good shooting units in the army, I would just like to maintain the vampiric theme I have in mind and that can be captured with conversions just as much, if not more, than playstyle.
I'd like to make them melee focused but if that is a crippler, I'm okay with other options. The mainstay of the concept is that when they arrive, blood is shed by the gallon. I would like to keep a fairly decent amount of wyches in the army, and I'd like to have the incubi as well, I was thinking two squads of wyches, and a squad of incubi. An Avatar and a squad of scorpions. That's it so far, and I'm still completely undecided on an HQ, I love Drazhar as a counts-as "vampire lord" type character but he seems far too expensive and fragile sadly so I'm drawing a blank for an HQ(s) choice for the army.

| Baron could be a good, fun choice and fairly good in combat. That leaves me wondering just what I could use as a Beast pack for him to accompany... Maybe a horde of khymaera modelled as something similar to ur-ghul or maybe some kind of ghoul type thing? I'm razorwings as batswarms is an obvious choice to throw in as well. | |

| Beastpack dogs can be modeled from vampire counts dire wolves for super cheap and in your theme. I have the same general theme for my army, but don't forget, just because Khaine uses a sword means shooting is outside of your theme. Every aspect warrior in codex eldar represents an aspect of the war god. Perdonally I think wraith units are too pricey and impartial for a bloodthirsty list. I recommend windriders (modeled from reavers). Fast, in your face, and their guns shoot frikken shuriken razors so no lack of gratuitous bloodshed there. Also unlike the wraith units they can benefit from the avatars bubble of fearlessness.
As for the HQ, I'd convert up a regular old archon (with a vampiric husk blade and soul trap of course) and surround him with incubi. As an aside the new dark elf executioners make SICK Incubi, though the finecast models are great too.

| I'm leaning towards using an Archon with an escort of Grotesques(some kind of temple guard type guys), riding around in a Raider.
Would it still be viable to have Baron with a beast pack as my other HQ or would I be better off going with a Haemi or Succubus or something similar instead.
