Well yeah, sort of, except, who uses the 2D6 movement to move in the same direction they went in the movement phase? The primary use of this is to 'jump shoot jump' into range then back into cover.

That's entirely situational. If you need to move forwards, to get Line Breaker for example, then you will do so. If the better cover is in the same direction as you moved in the movement phase then that's where you will head for.
