| I haven't had a chance to play Eldar much since their new codex came out, and as I was trying to resurrect an old list I had had at the advent of 6th edition (inspired by Dangerous Bean's non-mech thread), something was brought to my attention: Eldar Rangers lost the 'Scout' special rule-- is this true?
Previously, my list had a few mechanics. Either way, it involved including a Haemonculus in a squad with the scouts special rule. Thus allowing him to move 6", and then move additional 6" before popping the portal (again, depending on full footslogging army list or not).
However, as I understand it, Independent Characters cannot join units from Desperate Allies, and the only thing with the Scout special rule in both DE and E is the warwalkers-- which may not be joined by a special character (as they are squadrons, not units).
So, am I scrapping the whole list? Or at least have to suffer with a 9" from start deployment range on my portals?
Edit: Updated for accuracy

| Sadly Roc, I think that you're right (thank you for the mention by the way haha! ) and I believe that we've both fallen foul of the same issue: not using old lists in a while! I stopped playing 40k just before the new eldar book came out but that was the trick I theorised might be worth pulling, albeit I think mine was with Striking Scorpions at the time - I've just check the new Eldar book and even those guys don't have it, nor does Illic Nightspear or his Pathfinders... Pretty gutted by that really! I'll have another scour of the book tomorrow, but this might be the end. Unless Infiltrators also have the option to deploy as Scouts?? I don't know 6th well enough yet... | |

| Scout confers infiltrate & outflank, but Infiltrate does not give scout. Sorry Sybarites. | |

| Assuming you're using a vehicle you can have a maximum deployment range of 14" for a Webway portal. It's not much more than the 9" you were quoting but it might be worth noting.
6" vehicle move, 6" disembarkation move, portal deployed within 2".
Again not entirely sure if this has been FAQ-ed, but as it's not a shooting weapon and merely an item activated in the shooting phase there is the potential for a case to be made that one could run d6" and then deploy it. However that's likely to be quibbled with your opponent and or possibly covered as impossible elsewhere.

| You have to activate a WWP 'instead of firing'. If you Run you don't have the option to fire so can't do something instead of firing. | |

| So... we sure they can't attach to warwalker squadrons? Heh. Maybe an exception could be made for a transport or two --> that 9" from deployment is just too short. | |
