The Black Halo

Howdy.

So now that I have narrowed down my color scheme and army list I am going to begin to document the Black Halo Kabal.

My Dark Eldar project log. My intent was to build a dark eldar army that was different from the typical black with extreme highlghts.
Inspired by the movie 'dune" and annoyed by local wasps, I have build a mix scheme desert theme color scheme. Ignore the guy with the blue helmet, that was a test model to see how it looked.

Forgive the poor picture quality, most were taken with a cell phone camera.

Now I know you are wondering where is the black for the Halo. Those will appear on the vehicles once all the desert colors are done and as details on the rest of the infantry, so for now they are not shown.

I like it. Very original.

That is a whole lot of DE, GAR. Luv'ly paint job, too, it looks terrific on the vehicles and your warriors are highlighted extremely well! It's going to look amazing all together on the tabletop.

I like the warrior with the blue helmet, too, adds just a little bit of extra colour to make him 'pop'.

Thanks. I liked the blue helmet, but it didn't really work with the overall theme & scheme. That being said, I did include it on my wyches.

More WIPs.

I did not have time to take really good pictures but you can see some of what I am working on.

Wyches Hekatrix, needs to have her eyes finished and her lips. I need to soften her features more.


On the desk top, my 4th unit of warriors, some shredders and my Scourges




Trueborn, still needs his helmet and the base to be done, but is otherwise complete minus a few unit details and identifiers.


I want to do a lot more details on them, but I have a tournament in a month and I need them all to be painted, so some of those will have to wait till after the tournament.

I do rather like your colour scheme, natural but still dangerous looking!

The red on the Wyches is a good additional colour to use to mark them out.

I wonder if these guys follow the teachings of the Dark Muse Shai-Hulud? (Or considering the evil undertones should that be Shaitan?)

Up for review right now are a couple more warriors. I did not get the exposure right on these and the pictures came out kinda bad. Sorry about that but I was in a rush.

Anyhoo, a squad of warriors. I still need to do all the gems on these, like the shredder has and then they will be waiting on the base to be finished.

Next I have a unit of true born.

I have to admit my first attempts were epic fails.

First I tried to do the bubble head helmet with a reflective gold tone, but it looked wierd and my son told it was not very good..... DPG -> fail

next I converted a head to have a skull helmet, I used a tomb king skull and cut a DE head to fit. I had to insert a piece of plasticard into the skull so it would be long enough. After conversion and paint I used hobby tack to see how it looked. the neck was too long so I cut down the neck some more so it would rest normally on the neck joint in the torso. it was then I realized the skull was too big and it looked like the figure was wearing a bone colored pumpkin on his shoulders. DPG -> Fail.

So I tried to figure out what was something different for my trueborn. Then it hit me, no one I have seen anywhere uses the bare heads. Well why not, I'm pretty decent at doing faces so I picked out 6 heads and worked on them.

I am very pleased with how they turned out. They are exactly what I was looking for.

Just out of curiosity GAR, how long would it take you to paint an entire warrior to this standard?

It takes about 2 to 3 hours per figure start to finish. I could cut the time down quite a bit, but then it would not look as good.

I have a buddy of mine who has his warriors done in 30 minutes, start to finish, but he does that so he doesn't get bored painting them.

I actually really enjoy painting, and these figures are a joy to paint, so it is a luxury to spend some time on them.

Just as an side thought.

This is the inspiration for the name of my kabal.

I really enjoy painting too, it's very therapeutic after dealing with the day's trials and tribulations. 2 to 3 hours per fig is OK, that's about what I can do so I don't feel so bad now, although my end-result isn't quite the same as yours. I don't mind though.

I just feel so slow since I have to steal 2-3 hours each night after the grots go to bed, so a squad of 10 whatevers will often take me 2 weeks to complete. Scary when there's a tournie on the horizon.

Man these figures look awesome! But I do have to admit the facial features could use some softening up.
