Raiding forces of the Lost Empty
PostSubject: Raiding forces of the Lost   Raiding forces of the Lost I_icon_minitimeSun May 12 2013, 10:35

Well, I figured to try a project log. I am not the best of painter, not a professional. But I have taken example from a few experienced (but still not professional) painters, my (big) brothers.
If you want to tell that these look horrible, first, blame my camera.
Then, blame my paints.
Then, blame my paintbrush.
Then, blame Slaanesh.
Then, and only then, you can blame my painting skills  pig

Here is something im working on:
Raiding forces of the Lost Kuva_015
Raiding forces of the Lost Kuva_016
Raiding forces of the Lost Kuva_017
My cryx-count-as-haemonculi
The first one is almost complete, I would like some suggestions how to paint that head!
Also, they will have these weird racks that will go on their backs. I will paint the head first, then glue them on.
The next one is already waiting to be painted behind the first one Smile(he has the racks on since his pose is rather easier to paint even with them on already)

And now, I cant have haemies without a few wrack servants!
Raiding forces of the Lost Kuva_018
One is painted already, it's there to show what the others will be like.

And yet one thing I am rather proud of.
Raiding forces of the Lost Kuva_019
Raiding forces of the Lost Kuva_020
Raiding forces of the Lost Kuva_021
I think I will not be telling who this is (or whos 'counts-as' this will be)
Throw in guesses Smile

Your base is upside down!
Otherwise, it is hard to see your painting when the pics are blurry, unfocused and without enough of light. But we could blame me for viewing these from an iphone...
What I can make out of the pics on wracks, the skin looks great!

The bases on some of them are upside down because I couldnt fit them in right >.> I will try to get them fixed
The cryxies though, I dont think I can fit them on GW bases the right way around no matter what.

Well, here we go. The haemmie is finished, has a few things added, and I also painted the second wrack, who will likely be an acothyst if I ever use one. Also, managed to fit the cryx into a GW-base! ^^
Blurry pictures. Remember Slaanesh.

Well now, I havent updated this for a while, and I have not really taken a lot of pictures, but I decided to put up a few "stages" where you get to see some of my models.
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0711

That would be 3 reavers escorting a venom. I dont know what point this would have on a battlefield, but whatever...

Been a while, but here are some stuff I am working on.

(blurry)
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0310
Middle one is klaivex, my question would be that anyone have any tips how to make him look more different than the other two?

(not so blurry)
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0311
Some outcasts willing to serve my kabal... (I will be getting Illic Nightspear soon as well)

Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0312
The weirdest model I have.

And finally something that is not finecast.

Update!
Firstly, I want to show something that has very well come maybe the best model I have painted. Im not much of a painter, and I dont rank what I paint, but this easily goes to my top three, I like it so much :3

Rather bad quality but whatever

Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0314
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0317
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0316

And that brings me to my next model, which I have been meaning to show for some time now (painted it a long time ago)
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0318
It is a wych with hydragauntlets, but only in an emergency. She is really a wrack conversion.

Next up, the incubi!
This one is really bad quality!
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0319
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0320
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0321
They dont look that great but I think im happy with that. Just the klaivex now.

Lastly, something weird.

Brace yourselves.

Here it comes...

Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0323

It is a pink ranger. Embarassed
What do you say to that?
I dont know how, I dont know why, but I just decided to paint it pink.
Thats just how it went.

You got something against pink rangers, do you???? Evil or Very Mad

My first glance at your ranger i thought it was wearing a cloak of flesh, then I read it was pink and realized it was just the way I was vieiwng it. But that error gave me a great idea for some Hami united rangers Twisted Evil

It looks like your army is comming along well.

Update!

Group shot of the incubi...
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0324

They are not that pretty, but fine to me.

Next up, I will be painting
- a few venoms
- a warlock (when done, I will show the farseer too)
- reavers!

Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0326
The already painted ones are in the back, making sure that their fellow gladiators get the same colours as they do! Cool

and lastly.
Now what do I have in here?
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0327

I picked that up at Fantasiapelit-store in Helsinki, between a venom-box and scourge-box.
I got to WH40k at the 6th edition, and this is the first old DE mini I have seen in real life...
I hope any of you elderly archons there feel a moment of nostalgia, since I dont scratch

I do think it is a rare find, it was actually partially hidden in the shelf. There wasn't much Dark Eldar, or 40k at all in there.
If I remember correct, they had only venoms, scourges, wracks and wyches. Maybe raiders or ravagers.

The place was Fantasiapelit, it has a few stores around Finland. I asked the salesman about the reavers, "They dont make these anymore, do they?", and his reply was along the lines "Yup, but we still got a few left on the shelves".
I didn't notice any other out-dated models in the 40k section (even though im not that aware of what models are old and which are not), so I would think that the DE were quite unpopular there if no one had bought them Very Happy

The guy will be my arena champ, in any case.

I bought my first miniatures from that store.

Last time I was there they had the old ravager or raider in stock too. It's a good place to get hold of limited edition stuff and OOP miniatures.

I wish it was a smartphone so I could blame how horrible they are, but it is just a lousy normal camera.

I cant really remember, but I think I did too!

Of the ravager, I didnt notice. But that reaver box, I saw it earlier there a few weeks ago. I was going back to buy it, and I was correct to assume it was still there!

Hm... Well, I think we could help you catch better pictures of your minis. Try provide enough light to the models and camera, have a bright background maybe. And minimize shaking, if able. The shaky and dark pictures makes some detail hard to see and behold Wink

Update!

As you can see, I have trouble making my non-Dark Eldar non-dark. They have some bright colours but they are still much like my DE-forces.

Next up is probably the reavers (including the old one).
Also I will start on more rangers soon, beware of the pink

There are some people who think the old line was really nice but personally I think most of the models were atrocious. I do have a sneaky liking for the old vehicles though. Was thinking of picking up a couple of the old Raiders to use for my Coven units to distinguish them from the Cult and Kabal vehicles.

After assembling that old reaver, I kind of agree that the new ones look far better... that thing is just... weird.

The reaver is the only old model I have seen live, but I would say from all the pictures that the old raiders do look kind of nice. But all the infantry and else is just... again, weird.

I think I will still make an arena champ, just because the old bike at least more spikes and is a bit bigger.
And I dont need to paint him that much differently, he sticks out pretty well. afro

Updatey!

Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0310
The old reaver model (who is going to be my arena champ with a special weapon (that is a wych impaler, will use it either as a venom blade or power lance if I feel like it)), progressing. I probably wont be leaving those blades like that, painting over them with something, maybe more red. Otherwise, neat enough.
Also, another reaver, still more to go though.
Raiding forces of the Lost Img_0411

I forgot the other reavers, but they are all assembled as well, just have to paint them.

Next, I should work on...
- finishing up the above two reavers
- 4 more reavers
- 4 rangers to be pinked
- a venom

Lock your elbows when using the camera; that's what my life long photography freak father tells me.

Pink is a good camo for the desert; the SAS used it in Iraq (Google `Pink panther` Land rover if you like)

I have put off several people from a military career by telling them that.
