Archite Glaive: Double-Handed always Empty
PostSubject: Archite Glaive: Double-Handed always   Archite Glaive: Double-Handed always I_icon_minitimeWed Oct 29 2014, 06:26

I'm in my office and hence cannot access my BRB & Codex now. It'd be much appreciated if I can receive your feedback (especially for my errors and mistakes)

I've painted my Succubus for the game this weekend. As we all know, she can use her glaive in two different ways. Single-handed (SH) provides A+1 combined with another melee weapon, while double-handed (DH) gives S+1 & AP2.

Obviously, DH is better against TEQs. But what about MEQs and weaker armors?

The possible stats of Succubus are S3-6 (from DH, drug, and furious charge) and A4-8 (from SH, drug, and rage).

The simple mathhammer (I'm gonna skip the procedure) suggests we'd better use the glaive with single hand only if S-A > 1 against T4. This is only possible in case of S6 & A4 but the difference is very small (~0.1W).

In conclusion, in any case, DH is always better than SH against T4.
QED. Any thoughts?

Unless the only way to win is to kill one model more than would be possible double handed? Or if you want to minimise the chances of killing everyone so as to not get shot next turn?

Other T values may have idiosyncrasies (T6 3+ Save is the sweet spot for singlehanded), but I agree double handed is generally better vs T4.

Mathematically there is only a single occurrence where using the Glaive single handed is superior;

When single handed will wound on 2+

When your opponent is hard to hit and also easy to wound they are about equal.
When they are easy to hit and hard to wound the two handed stance is superior.

Basically, always use the two handed stance against any opponent *unless* this is true 2+S(yours) ≥ T(theirs) without counting the Glaive S bonus.

Luckily, before we all start shouting "LOL GW DIDNT DO MATH", The point where SH is better (The T6 3+) is actually a common type: The standard MC

Not that DE ever had issues with that

EDIT: Tossed together a bit of Excel Mathhammer, Also including the Agonizer and A and S drugs, SH is only the best weapon against GEQ when charging with FC and +1 S drugs

Thank you for pointing this out Darkness, I didn't see it as an advantage unitil now Smile

On the OP: yeah, duh. That's why I can't understand you need to pay 15 points on a Klaivex to be able to lower your combat efficiency with dual wield... it costs more that the upgrade for the Klaivex itself... wich boosts: WS, I, A and gives Rampage!
