| A few months ago I decided to use the Las Vegas Open as an excuse to build and paint and a new army. Initially I was very motivated and made significant progress. Only being able to paint after the wife and baby go to sleep along with a lack of motivation have led to stagnation with the project. Fueled by gin and a desire to get this done in the next 6 weeks I have started this log and am willing to upload some sub-optimal iPad pictures. I'll show some of what is done so far, and try to post regularly as I go. First up are three venoms that are mostly done. I still need to clean up the canopies a bit and will do the kabalite gunners if I finish everything else and have time for the finer details of the army. Raider My version of the batwing voidraven Have 20 painted to this standard, but they will just look like more of the same Most of the rest of the army is in various stages of half painted. Tonight the modest goal is to assemble the last venom and crews for the other voidravens. | |

| Wow those are really great! Really loving the color on the vehicles! Just goes to show how powerful a strong airbrush job can be nowadays. A+ mate, keep it up! | |

| Wow gorgeous looking stuff. Something about the green is so soft and ghostly I love it! Man the VR is badass... I remember when people were rocking those batman vehicles when the 5th ed book dropped. Absolutely wicked looking proxy I wish GW had gone in this direction... its such a standout.
Good luck at the LVO make sure you let us know how it goes. I wish I was going... so give us a vicarious experience!

| Any project that is fuelled by Gin has my unconditional support. It just so happens that this project has deliciously painted miniatures in it as a bonus.
6 weeks to do an army?
YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

| the voidraven is a model from Batman Forever ...by Revel I think... with some dark eldar bits. I also tried to adjust the wing angle to match the angle on the razorwing leading leading to the sweet line you can kinda see near where the wing meets the body. so yesterday I was able to accomplish my mediocre goal of assembling the voidraven crews and enough of the last unassembled venom to make busting out the airbrush worthwhile. tabletop... tabletop... tabletop... Below you can see see a brief step by step that shows how ugly my painting style is until the last second. tried to go quick and remind myself that these guys will be hidden under canopies so don't have to be perfect. Something is horribly wrong with my minitaire pink color as you'll see, but the end result has been working out. First, airbrush pink, then purple, then black on the bombadiers to establish the fade. Then wash 50/50 secret weapon soft body black and water drybrush lightly pallid wytch flesh then paint the details as quickly as possible... the cockpits and bombadier harnesses are already painted. so tomorrow night goal will be to paint and mask the canopies and lay the base coats down on the voidraven bodies. i may be too tired though, as it's 2am here. sorry again for the ipad camera pictures with poor lighting, but i'm not eager to get out a real camera and set up a background and try to light it at the hours i have available to work. | |

| They turned out pretty good from the photos... nice contrast in the flesh (especially the Reavers). Great result from the time you spent!
Only criticism is of the Reaver stuck to the Bud Light bottle top - he's gonna get teased by the others in his unit for sure.

| Haha game room was littered with them from use as chugging beers from a furious game of beer hammer. I was actually being very hipster last night with some local craft gin.
I'm eager to get cracking on the void ravens. For some reason one of the bomber couches seems to be seating too far forward in that forward cockpit. It's baffling me as it is a socketed joint but it's noticeably different than its twin. Anyone experience anything similar? I'm reluctant to shave it down as It wouldn't surprise me if it's user error

| So the progress I had hoped to make on Friday didn't really happen until Sunday. Time is going to be short. I have been using white glue as a budget liquid mask on the canopies and up until the bombers it had not been a problem. the Glue did not want to stick to the large smooth surfaces and so it took and that stuff dries surprisingly slowly. It took several hours just to get the canopies masked. Tonight I got to do the airbrush work on them, and they are nearly at the point I get to fly them around the room making laser sounds like a small child (the best part of any project). Anyways, the part most people will care about, the poorly taken iPad pictures. First up is the last glimpse of the crew for awhile all snug in their new homes. The 2 new bombers And a group shot of the bomber wing. I paint the ends of the wings and fins metal like blades so that is why they are left mostly black with overspray for now. Will have to do the full air force picture soon. | |

| Results of the evenings work. I hate painting metals, but it shouldn't be long from this point. I just hate leadbelcher. Trying to decide how to do the guns. not sure if i like the fins around the end of the weapon silver, or if i'd prefer them gold. first wash on the gold and starts of the freehand work. | |

| Yeah, just simple white glue. If you remember back to elementary school when kids would cover their palm and fingers in glue and then peel it off a like a second skin it's the same principle. Except the glue I have doesn't like to stick to smooth surfaces. | |

They look phenomenal... the proxy looks awesome alongside them!

| I love the green on those planes. I'm assuming it's all airgun work? You've picked out the high points very nicely. What are you going to do with the windows (as you've painted them green right now)? | |

The windows that are green have been masked off. Once all the painting is done and they get a coat of dull cote I'll pull the mask off and the windows will be clear

| Ahhhhhhhh.... that makes plenty of sense! I don't have an airbrush, so I'm hoping my brush skills can do the lovely DE vehicle models justice! | |

| That's the kind of airborne wing I'd love to do. Sadly my 1 razorwing would be a bit pathetic at it.
Have you had any test games with them yet? I'd always be a little bit concerned about dropping 1000+ pts on fliers for a normal sized game, but I'd be interested to see how paired razors and a voidraven function on the tabletop

I'll second that! Awesome looking flyers. I'm also a big fan of the Batwing Nice colour scheme too, with the pink/purple designs on green.

| I haven't had enough games with the list yet but it's hard to find the time to play. First outting was a local tourney and took 3rd, losing only a kill point mission by one to the overall champion. It's been challenging learning how to most effectively handle the movement phase to plan a few turns ahead with so many flyers. The beta strike has been consistently impressive. I love the dark scythes and no on knows to fear them as nobody runs the bomber. An allied autarch has been crucial with so many points invested in reserves. Last night finished the 2nd bomber. I need to pick up the pace or ill have quite a few 3 color minimum models in the army. | |
