I got my unit of grotesques yesterday and im sitting there building them and im noticing first that the torso and legs line up terribly and secondly that when you do find a way they will lay flat with each other there are tons of gaps. Anyone else have this problem?

I have five and have only had minor gaps with one at the waist. Are you having gaps at the meat-spine-sump deal and/or the waist? I used a little bit of green stuff. Not that you want to have to convert a $22 model just to make it fit, but I am in the middle of converting one to be turned at the waist the other direction.
Do you have any pictures?

Yes, the grots are horrible when it comes to gaps. I experienced them on on the torso/legs, torso/arms, and on the spine/back.

''Failcast'' - How apt.
My 'failcast' incubi had similar problems to this before I got rid of 'em.
