Do you prefer the old archon mini or the new?

I've always used my kitbashed archon but now I'm thinking of upgrading.

Should I get the latest archon mini or pick up the old on ebay?

The new looks a bit silly standing there with legs together and arms crossed but that might just be the pictures. Is it easy to change his arms and head?

I'd like to hear which you all prefer before I buy.

That guy looks like someone is trying on some wargear that was made for someone much bigger than him!

I got both, both kitbashed.
The new one looks quite good with the old head and old Huskblade/Agonizer from a Sybarite.

Fully magnetized him so I can swap weapons.

I think all of the really old dark eldar are ugly, the archon being one of the worst

Personally I like the archon on our codex (wo can no longer be bought on the GW site, lol) the most:

I'm a fan of the 5th edition Archon personally. I got mine when he was still metal. 3rd edition is just horribly out of proportion for me and the new one just has a pointless pose, again in my opinion.

I used to have the original Archon (a whole original army in fact). Never liked that model, the mask (it used to be a piece of wargear, forgot the name but I think it had fear type effects) always looked stupid. That old model range is in fact out of scale compared to the newer models. It seems the armies of 40k had a growth spurt some time in the past and all the models got bigger. The original DE are slightly shorter than the current ones. I think you can get away with swapping out some helmets or weapon arms (I have some still on sprues that I want to try with) but I wouldn't feel complete models side by side with the current range. Would make me cringe to see them.

The 5th ed Archon looks good. Nice pose and nice look overall. Loks good next to Incubi I think.

The 7th ed Archon is weird. The pose it a little funny. I don't mind the way he stands but I'm not sure I like him crossing his arms. With a decent conversion to swap his arms out I think he'd look great. I love the face details and the other finer details of that model. He's by far the best sculpt it's just those arms. I'd take this guy if I intended to convert him. Otherwise stick with the 5th ed.

Or just convert your own? It's easy to kitbash a DE Archon or turn another model into one. You can use pretty much any DE infantry model, plenty of Eldar models, a whole bunch of Fantasy elves (of all flavours), all sorts. Just have fun with it!

Every component in the 7th edition autarch is completely interchangeable with every component in the kabalite kit.

*archon. The autarch kit is NOT interchangeable with anything as far as I can tell.

I like the 5th Ed one, as well as my former Duke Sliscus archon, made from a Black Ark Fleetmaster.

None. I have converted 3 archons over the last 10 yrs out of other dark eldar bits and couldn't be happier

I think the converted Archons are always the best ones.

I used the legs of one of the guys hanging at the Raider. But I switched the ' standing' leg with a witch leg. The right arm is from a Raider commanding guy and the spear arm from a scourges box.

I love my Old Archon. Every time I open the lid of the figure case he is in, I can hear "Manowar - Black Wind, Fire and Steel" playing in the background.

I started to play dark Eldar when they got re invented with the codex before the current one. (fifth? Don't know) I absolutely hate the old style. It just looks... Like clowns.

I know what you mean. I started in third when they were brand spanking new, and I hated most of the models from the get go. I hade to get creative with my exacto knife and kit bash a little to make them look less like space buffoons. One exception being the archon who is just so over the top metal, that he owns it. At least that is what I tell myself.
I still use my kabalite warriors and him. Everything else has been replaced.
I have a kitbashed archon as well but he is not yet painted and he might end up as a corsair prince in the end.

Of course he does. He's wearing a dead skin mask

I always liked the one in the mask myself, I was really proud of the paint job I gave him back in the day (sadly I sold him a while ago so can't post pics). The fifth edition one was perfectly fine, nothing special but easily customisable. I don't really like the pose on this current one, the standing position makes him look like a synchronised swimmer about to start a routine
