Never Removed From Box. I picked up my Archon from ebay, stripped the old paint job and left him in a drawer for ages. Eventually I painted him as he is in the pic to be equipped with Armour of Misery. Klaivex, I'm jealous of your Archon, you'd actually have the wicked Trophy Rack yeah? Wish I had it.

I'll be honest, that's not my Archon. I do have one, he's just in the process of being repainted. I have more old warriors than new ones, and have declared them to be trueborn. I have a squad of pewter wyches who are my bloodbrides (The squad even has Shredders. Remember when we could take Shredders on Wyches?). I have an old school Ravager. A squad of old school Incubi. Enough old-school raiders that my entire Kabal rides on them while the cult uses the new-fangled flying boats. In other words, I am seriously old-school. Oh, and I have some old-school Reavers too, but everyone has those.

There is no Trophy Rack... But I remember a conversion in the White Dwarf back in the days which featured him with a trophy rack from Queek Headtaker (Skaven Character) http://store.wargamingtrader.com/system/files/imagecache/product_full/S506%20-%20Skaven%20Warlord%20Queek%20Headtaker%201993%20%20%20%20%2011-06-29.jpg

I always wondered how that Trophy Rack attached to the Archon when he has such luscious hair... Thanks for clearing that up. Found this pic in the old DE codex - [img] [/img]

| Of the options, I like the last version (one on courrent Codex cover) but prefer the classic one (skin-face). I never really liked the current model. That straight legged position just looks boring to me.
However I'll add thr adendum that I MUCH prefer a nicely converted Archon. I like therew to be a sense of individuality in the different Kabals.

| Personally, I like the 5th edition Archon. It just seemed like a pretty nice model - it had a good pose, some nice detail and a cool-looking soul trap. The new one... ugh. His pose is really static (might look cool if he was levitating... but he's not), whilst also looking really awkward. I could *maybe* get behind a sort of lofty/arrogant pose, but when his arms are crossed in front of him it just looks weird - especially with his head looking between them. In fact it looks like the team making the arms weren't in discussion with the team designing his legs. Also, his face looks a potato with Down syndrome. I don't know, to me there's just nothing interesting about it. Anyway, people were talking about conversions earlier, so I thought I'd throw this in as I usually use it as an Archon: - Spoiler:

| Wouldn't it be able to use the body of the new archon to built a levitating one? As a base for a dark Eldar looking Farseer? | |

Entirely possible, but I've no idea how hard or easy it would be.

| Could probably use the new Archon model as a base for a Haemonculus too if you were to go the route of levitating him. No real difference between levitating him on a wire and having him raised by tentacle tubes. He definitely needs converting to make him usable though, that pose is just stoopid. | |

| Just a minor point, but one thing that bugs me is these really weird capes characters seem to have nowadays. Like all the new Necrons are wearing bead-curtains on their backs, and the new Archon is wearing one that's been sewn together really ineptly. In fact, it looks more like a Dracon has has it made really cheaply, and wears it whenever the real Archon isn't looking, whilst repeating to himself "Someday..."
I guess I just think a nice, cloth cape is already decorative enough. The new one just comes across as trying too hard.

| I am going to agree that the new archon is stupid.
I like the Succubus model though.

Not stealthy, but if you've worked your way up to Archon then you're going to show how wealthy and powerful you are with BLING! He routinely finds Archons who wear tattered-ass cloaks and mocks them while captive battle sisters give him lap dances. Because he has standards damn it.

| I assumed it was a battle-cloak, rather than his decadently degenerate dress finery. | |

| It's probably stitched together from the hides of other Archons who mocked his fashion sense! My Archon (to be converted from the Lhamaean mini) is way too stylish and arrogant for 'battle dress'. Not decided if she'll have a cloak yet but if she does it'll have to be pretty swanky. | |

| Even though I like the old Archon mini, I'm not really a fan of capes for character models in general. Always reminds me of this- [img] [/img] | |

| The monomolecular blades on the Raiders would rip straight through any cloak the Archon wears. This is probably how the guys cloak got so torn up in the first place come to think of it! | |

Wait, you mean all the spikes on Raiders are monomolecular? Even the ones that are just for decoration? If so, is this why our wargear is so limited? Because someone used it to make raiders that are basically the Iron Throne.

| I managed to make a decent conversion with the new Archon (Skaven Warlord gauntlet on the right, Scourge Venom-Blade-counting-as-Agonizer on the left, Cold One Chariot driver head, Sybarite back, High Elf Sorcerer cape), but I still think the 5th Gen Finecast one is a much better looking model. | |

I would love to, but I still don't own a digital camera. There will be photos once I do. [EDIT]

| I have all four released Archon models.
Back in 3rd ed, my army was led by the 3rd ed female Archon model. I converted her by adding a trophy rack and changing her trident thing into a scythe thing. Some day I'll update that paint job and conversion.
I think the male 3rd ed Archon is actually a really nice model, but I don't think it works with both the skin mask and the over-sized agonizer. I suspect he'd be great with just one, so my plan is to leave him the claw and change his head.
I converted the current plastic Archon into a budget blaster Archon. I think there's a lot to like about the model, though I understand people's complaints about it. I had a hell of a time converting him so his feet rest flat on the base, rather than being perched on the rock. I also left off the chains which are supposed to fix to the front of his hips - his pose may be so undynamic because he'd get tripped up on them if he tried to walk. He awaits paint.
I have the 5th ed Archon to be my fancypants freakshow Archon. He still needs some conversion work.
I have a deep, aching emptiness in my soul which can only be filled with the unreleased 3rd ed female Archon. (She was never released because she's sculpted holding a blaster, and Archons in 3rd ed couldn't take blasters.) I actually saw her appear on ebay once, but she sold for more money than I had.
(I know that's a lot of unfinished Archons. When I got back into 40k I decided to work on a single Dark Eldar sub-faction at a time, and chose to focus on Coven first.)

| Personally, the Archon on the Codex, and the newest are my favorites, I mixed the parts up on some of mine, I have about 3 archons, two from the codex archon, one from the newest, I swapped out the original bald archon head for a basic Kabalite Warrior head, as I hate the sneering pig face thing they had on the newer one.
The old School pewter Archon is sorta iffy for me, I'm not a fan of the looks, mostly because of just how un-proportionate he is. The armor and claw give the thought he's like some heavy slow moving unit, which its not, the newer edition Archons look like a Dark Eldar should, sleek, intimidating, and also the type of guy you can look at and know he's fast. That being said, I love that the Old school one has the skinned face on his helmet. I wish the newer archon came with a face and a helmet with the skinned face across it like in the first few pages of the Codex, but alas. I suppose not. As for the stances, I used the previous gen Archon to look exactly as the archon on the cover of the codex does, with the soul trap and curved huskblade, the current Archon has the long archon helmet with the huge hair, huskblade held completely down, and the splinter pistol across the chest
