It sounds like we're potentially in for a larger shake-up. Salt shield is up to maximum but will keep the ears open for further details.

Just to add, in the teaser released today for Gathering Storm 2, that quote from Ahriman refers to Ancient Aeldaei.

If we go from Dark Eldar to Dark Aeldari I honestly don't care. We're space elfs and space drow, plain and simple.

Well, seeing as no one in my shop plays Astra Militarium (Though plenty play the Imperial Guard) I don't think this will really change much.

One can only hope, but I dont think so. Probably just a decurion with some formations in the gathering storm book and hopefully a re-edit of some units like they did to Pink horrors.

It would need to be more than 'some' units. Pretty much everything apart from Grots and Reavers!

I know plenty of Guard players, and no Militarum.
I know plenty of Space Marine players, bit no Astartes.
I know plenty of Elf players, but no Aels, Sylvaneth, or somesuch.
I even know a Lizardman player. Not a Seraphon.

I do find it annoying that GW are trying to rename what has existed with an identity for so long, but I don;t think any of the actual players will care or even notice. They'll always be the Eldar to us.

If they rename us, they have to give us a new codex. Nothing in there would be protected by IP law otherwise, right?

I actually prefer Astartes to Space Marine. I know the 'latin' origin is a bit iffy but it just sounds better IMO.

The devil is known by many names. I wouldn't mind. But enough of all that polishing and changing a word here and there, and just make a new codex!

At least the names "Astra Militarum" and "Adeptus Astartes" have always been there. "Aeldari" just seems random and arbitrary.

Renaming something after so many years, when so many people have literally grown up saying it, seems odd and troublesome. Especially when the name is dumb.

I actually quite like Astartes though. 'Space Marines' didn't really seem to fit the 'warrior-monk' theme they picked up after RT.

Naming them after an ancient Phoenecian goddess of war is a lot more poetic.

Aeldari is just sticking extra letters in to make it sound mysterious, which seems unnecessary when you're talking about the Eldar.

Not a fan of Astra Militarum either for the same reason. 'Star Army' in pseudo-latin isn't poetic enough. Definitely prefer the 'Solar Auxilia' of the FW HH.

So apparently Aeldari is an alternative name for Eldar, not a retcon.
And Dark Aeldari is not an option (luckily, since it would be quite ridiculous IMO).

After hearing Aeldari I don't mind it too much. It sounds more musical to me then Eldar, and I think it works for Space Elves.
