I'm try not to think about that I've been trying to crank it out with what little time that I have right now(teaching and finishing a Masters degree), but I'm really glad that GAR's comments reminded me to slow down and enjoy the ride. I'm only painting one of these things and it would truly be an injustice to such a sexy model to just slap it together. The highlights on the runes are almost finished, and I will spray the teal clearcoat with iridescent medium/paint the gems/and finally switch out the canopy with a clear one to show the pilot by this weekend. Pics to follow!

| Dont' know if you noticed, but CONGRATS on your 300th post in your project log!
And to echo GAR, yes, please take your time, you make the rest of us look like lazy painters by comparison, reckon i've spent over ten hours on my razorwing already and it still needs a lot of work before it's finished!

Yikes, I guess that there is too much jibber-jabber and not enough painting!

| ESE you continue to amaze. The freehand looks awesome. I tried a little on my Incubi recently but don't think I'd be brave enough on something this large. But as has been said, take your time. As my Mrs keeps reminding me when I get stressed out painting, you're supposed to be doing this for fun, take your time. | |

thanks for the encouragement Try the freehand on a few infantry models, move on to banners, then to vehicles. This is the largest model that I've tried this technique on. If all of these Void Raven rumors are true, I'll be trying this out on an even larger model this summer (Even if I've never considered taking one in a game..then again, I've never made a list for a Razorwing either..._ I got the hull designs highlighted tonight and (per GAR's advice) worked on shading the hull a bit. Tomorrow night I plan on working the highlights up a bit more. Seems like this is really taking a long time, but the model is really worth it. Looks like I'll actually have time to use it in a tournament on the 26th too (Sorry about the crap lighting )

| Razorwing looks fantastic, the extra shading/highlighting was worth the time put in. I can't wait to see it in person, it's going to ba a shame blowing something that pretty off the table. | |

| It's just too pretty for words really. Apart from the missing dark lance of course, I'm presuming you've got it stashed away somewhere, or is that your 'weapon destroyed' result? Do you plan your hull runes out before you draw them onto the model? | |

If you mess up and are quick, you can wipe off the ink before it dries. Finished the highlights last night, hit it with Dullcote, and started the first coat of Tamiya clear (50/50 mix of blue and green with a touch of iridescent medium for that little sparkle). I've never airbrushed this stuff before and am a little nervous. Figured that I'd post a picture of the first layer so as to make sure that it dries before spraying the next. Both fingers crossed....

| Added a couple of more layers of the clear. It darkened up the color(negating all of those highlights ) and made the Fortress Grey highlights look a little teal. I might have to go back over those and rehighlight a bit to bring the color back. Still have to paint the gems and the frame work of the clear canopy. Probably should have left off the clear, but what's done is done! | |

| Ooh, sparkles! Perhaps a bit more sparkly than I'd have gone for, but maybe it's more the lighting - I can see some heavy shadows underneath so it probably looks better in person than the photos make it look. TBE | |

| Would love to see this model in person. The sparkles are a great idea even though I have to agree with TBE. On the photos it looks a little to sparkly. I´m really looking forward to see the finishes model.

| It truly was the lighting! I will take a shot of it in the morning after I finish the missiles. I put the clear canopy on and painted the frame, painted the 40+ gems on the hull, and retouched the highlights. I'll take a picture in the morning(the wife is sleeping) in the normal lighting to prove that it isn't to sparkly. I am REALLY going to be glad when this thing is done. I need to have a Ravager painted by next Saturday for a tournament along with the first 15 pages of my Masters thesis | |

| Great work there ESE. I think I actually liked it more before the clear spray went on, hopefully it's just the lighting thats dulled it down and the next pic will show the highlights and shading up more.
I got to get me one of them airbrushes.

It is in fact, thanks to ESE that I got my own Razorwing, a model that I certainly wasn't even considering of purchasing. His work certainly is inspiring, and even hough it didn't turn out as well as you had wished, it is still marvelous. Keep on experimenting, you never know what jewels of epicness you may unveil.

| No disapointment here, seeing it all finished with the clear canopy and gems there is no doubt this will be the centerpiece of your army. Dead sexy model you got there. | |

| I'm not looking forward to doing the jewels on mine either, got the first coat done but still 3-4 layers of metallics to go (or black, grey, white and gloss varnish for those on the weapons)
Looks really good, the difficult thing about commenting on your models ESE is I run out of compliments before you run out of models! TBE

TBE Not to bring you down, but there are 40+ gems on a Razorwing...not counting those on the weapons/missiles! I might try to revisit this clear technique when I paint my Corsair list this summer/fall. I think that I made the following mistakes: 1. Too much!! A thinner layer would have made the effect subtle and would have drawn the eye more to the highlights. 2. I tried to use a complementary color to get that effect of having one color from an angle, another from the other angle in the light. I think that I might try this on a Falcon for my Corsairs using a black base, shadow grey to fortress grey highlights topped with a thinner blue clear with a little less iridescent medium. The colors that I am going for on my Corsairs are black/yellow/blue(Yriel colors) Perhaps I'll try it on something smaller(Vyper?) before topping dozens and dozens of hours of painting...
