| I did a couple of quick test models this afternoon between sections of my last project (Grad program ends forever tomorrow at 4:30!). thought I'd post them for a little C+C. I only spent about 10 minutes or so on each one, so no comments about the sloppy blending/highlights I'm thinking about something half way between the two on the right for my Corsairs. I am definitely doing red helmets/wing blades with white accents. I'm not sold on the White weapons or the all brass weapon. Perhaps black weapons with brass metal parts? | |

| I'm not sure if the blue isn't a little too 'warm' with the red to my mind, perhaps a paler version might look better as I think the blue and red are currently competing with each other. (I'm a fan of space wolves grey, which I think would go well with a blood red, I basecoat with shadow grey then highlight up from there - not sure what the new names for these colours are though)[img] [/img] | |

| The blue is the base/layer/highlights replacement for Hawk Turquoise. (Stegadon, Sotek Green, something, and Skink Blue Dry?) The brightness of the blue might be because of the lighting. I jumped the gun and ran with a version that is a little bit between the two on the right. I might brighten up the gems to an orange for contrast, though there will be white dragon markings/runes on the turqoise to break it up a bit. I only painted a Venom pilot (Only thing that was complete and primed on my desk last night) last night before I went to sleep(kind of ). Today is my last day of grad school, but I will be sure to put a photo up once the wife wakes up, or tomorrow. The after-class festivities will occupy my attention tonight for sure. | |

| That looks a lot better. Had you though about a grey undersuit though? Might look pretty good with blue? | |

| That's really good. Are you planning to put a canopy in or leave it open topped? | |

I am sticking with black to keep them a little on the piratey side. I might redo my CWE in the same colors with grey undersuits to make them look a little "nicer"(?) And yes, I do plan on doing the 1/2 canopy with this Venom. I always paint the pilot before I basecoat the hull of the Venom with an airbrush. I'm bummed that I'm going on vacation in a few days and can't airbrush all of my vehicles in one fell swoop. (I know, complaining about going on vacation )

| A little gift to myself came today: There is a small matter of a missing wing, but other than that the castings are AWESOME. FW has definitely improved over the years. I'll slap a couple together tonight and possibly finish my Prince conversion. I knew this stuff would come in a couple of days before my vacation started | |

| Yeah, Corsairs! I'm so excited about this, even though it has nothing to do with me. Good luck with them, if anybody can bring them justice it is you. I looke forward to seeing them completed! | |

Have you asked? They are a legal list if your opponent or tournament organizer allows FW stuff. My LFGS allows them for league and tournament play. The Corsair list is fun and shooty...and squishy in close combat

| Started on the Corsair vehicles tonight. I opted to go with a scheme that I found online that looks very spiffy. It uses a turquoise faded to black with white markings/red gems. These shots only have the Stegadon Scale base color, but they will get the Sotek Blue treatment tomorrow along with the black parts getting sprayed. The goal is to get them base coated by Wednesday's league games. (No idea why the shot is so soft and fuzzy. Better shots tomorrow after the other colors are sprayed) | |

| Small update: Played my first tournament in 6th edition last Saturday. I won! I took the Baron and Hellion mob and had a blast. It reinvigorated my urge to paint all things DE. Started in on the Reavers(finally) today: I also have been pecking away at the Corsairs too: The infantry and vehicles will get red gems and white markings. I'm leaning towards a Corsair symbol that is halfway between the Void Dragons symbol and the Samhain. Something serpent-like. The vehicles have a scheme that is stolen from a Spanish painter's blog. I'll post a link to the original when I find it again. | |

| Looks very promising!
Have you though about which bases to use for the bikes? I'm leaning towards using Biker-bases but I'm a bit worried they might be a bit cumbersome to use for gaming :/

| I really like your Corsair scheme, but them I am biased as it is not dissimilar to my son's CWE And those Reavers look absolutely amazing! Congratulations on the tournie win ESE. Must be extra rewarding after all the effort you have put into this army. Very well deserved! Cheers. | |

| @ Setomidor: I'm using the stock bases(these will look exactly like the bases of my Hellions). The bike bases are a bit large for my taste, though they make sense for gaming play. @Gobs: Thanks! I'm going to redo my CWE Guardians and vehicles to match this scheme with white instead of the black for the infantry's helmets. Sort of a darker Mymeara scheme. I'm a sucker for Hawk Turquoise(Sotek Green, or whatever in the hell they're calling it these days!). I'm trying to figure out how to work in a little purple without having it clash with the red. | |

| Those are coming along very nicely.
I like what you have planned and I am looking forward to seeing the logo and the details.
Very nice.
One thing I was thinking of. On your photo of the Falcon and the venom, you look at where the light is reflected on the vehicles. If you were to go back with the airbrush and hit those with white, those models would have some crazy pop on the table. Then add in the shading and I think you will be rather amazed at the outcome.
Something else to think about. On the symbol for the craftworld/corsair band, have you thought of shadowing it. Add in some shadow effect on the symbol so it looks almost like it is "floating or suspended" above the surface of the vehicle?

| Hey GAR, The floating symbol effect is exactly why I am trying to develop a stencil so that I could airbush the shadow first before spraying the white symbol. I have one more layer of Temple Blue to spray (there is a little bit of this on the nose sections, but the mixture was off and I stopped before finishing the layer) The very edges will get the Skink Blue dry treatment(I'm not sold on the "Dry" paints). I agree; the white at the very edges will definitely give it some pop.
I was actually hoping that you would weigh in on something for me; I typically have used a black mixed with a touch of Shadow Grey to make a lighter black that is closer the the Reaper Master Series Black, worked up to Shadow Grey, final highlight with Fortress Grey. I am trying to only use paints from the new line to avoid having to do mixtures once the old stuff runs out. I am wondering though if it would be better to use a black to grey highlight with the turquoise rather than the bluish black. (I used the same black base mixture highlighted with Dark Reaper, Thunderhawk Blue, and the dry Etherial Blue[?]) I am leaning towards this, but wonder if the grey route would work better color wise. Any thoughts?

| LOL, I am pretty much throwing out most of the new paints and switching to Vallejo and P3. I am not overly impressed with the new line, no matter how wonderful they keep telling me it is.
Here is the thing about the colors, blues are a cool color, and tend to add depth to whatever it is you are trying shade. I use blue on a lot of my shading when I really want to add more emphasis.
Grey colors are really good for weathering black, because it looks more worn.
My thoughts are to try using dark dark blue instead of black, or only use black as a line to distinguish between the shadow and the object casting the shadow.
What would also help is to use a warm white color instead of just white, so it contrast strongly with the blue. For your white symbol, use a warm yellow color, almost like a popcorn color( not buttered) then start to ad white to the mix until you get pure white one the very edges. The slight yellow will contrast with a blue shadow and I do believe it will achieve the effect you want.
Also, TEST IT FIRST! If I am wrong, please don't wreck the already excellent paint scheme you have going. A piece of light blue construction paper should be good enough to get an idea on how it will actually look on the model.
