Really inspiring me to build that Baron Helion army... Thanks! You would be a better man than I if you did a whole army of Hellions. I painted 14+the Baron and ran out of steam. I might do a few more when I do a beast unit, but am done painting Hellions for the foreseeable future. Now to get that Corsair Prince and the first 500pts of my Corsair army converted for the new league tomorrow

I was getting a little more than sick of the whining and your quote struck a chord in me Figured out the Venom Scatter Laser/Catapult mounting problem. I've seen the heavy weapons mounted on top like the splinter cannon, but it NEVER looked right. The Eldar weapons are far too large and bulky. I plan to mount the heavy weapons with magnets so that I can switch out Scatter Lasers/EML's/SCannons as needed. I opted to mount the catapults using the RJB weapon mount with a Dire Avenger Catapult (they're longer) on each side to make the twin-linked thing work while maintaining symmetry. Thoughts? Comments and critique very much appreciated. I plan to add some target thingies and other stuff to dress the mountings up.

| I love it. I think the scatter laser mounting maybe needs a little bulking out, the mounting looks a little under-sized at present. How about using a wraithlord version, they have inbuilt mounting points don't they? Love the idea for twin linking the shuriken catapults though, reminds me of the little attack helicopter from xXx. | |

| the mounting from the Wraithlord weapons is on the wrong side though and would require mounting upside down. I'll take a look at making that work tonight. Of to class and later the first games with them at the LFGS!

| @ Sky: Thanks! I'm pretty pleased with them and have been toying with the idea of adding more next Fall. @ Malevolent One: He does look more bad ass bald! I'm thinking about doing my Corsairs as a lieutenant of Yriel's that wasn't so stoked on going back to the craftworld with Yriel and broke off to form a splinter band. Perhaps the Wraithguard that I take could be some of the fellow Corsairs lost when they returned to fight the Tyranids? Not a fluff guy, but it could make for a good excuse to use the large squad of Wraithguard that I have never found the urge to paint I received the Corsair parts that I purchased from Ebay today(the full conversion kits that I ordered will be here next week). I can't seem to find my second shreiker bike and decided to try simply converting one out of a plastic shuriken cannon. It is a little bigger and looks much more noticeable without looking silly IMHO. I think that I am going to convert a second one for the other bike with a cannon rather than use the stock model. I am finishing up my thesis this weekend and won't be able to really do much at all this weekend, but will get back onto getting the squad ready for Wednesday's league games. I'm REALLY looking forward to grad school being over and my Corsair kits arriving around the same day | |

THAT!!! My friend is what I have been silently waiting to see! Absosmurfly freaking brilliant! Bases done, but not overpowering, good use of the more subtle shades. The individual details on each of the skyboard are what I was hoping you would do. It adds soo much to the unit as a whole and the baron is just Pimp. The colors flow well together and what I really like about the whole unit is that the skyboards have the same colors, but the details are different. What it does so well is it makes the riders, who are also done uniformly, stand out as more individual than they really are. Its just an awesome effect! The highlights are spot on and the shading is done very well. All in all 2 thumbs up. One question, and I guess we are of a like mind, since I am doing the same thing, is which group of corsairs did you plan to use, if any? I picked up IA12 and have fallen in love with the Void Dragon Corsairs. I think the contrast of colors they have with my DE would be brilliant, and from a players perspective, corsair lists are allowed to take DE warrior units. Their colors are dark grey, almost black with deep red going to a vibrant orange.

| Thanks GAR! I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what to do for my Corsairs. I was originally going to paint them in a Yriel theme (as a nod to the Eldar army that I had back in the RT days Black/yellow/blue) similar to my Guardians from my CWE army so that I can use my Falcons and Jetbike units in both armies, but lately I have been questioning if I really want to do that at all. Realistically I could use any them that I want as long as they use the same ruined urban bases. I'm not sure if I want them to match up well with my DE colorwise. I agree: the Void Dragons theme is brutally beautiful.
Any thoughts on what you would do in my shoes for a paint scheme? I am almost thinking of airbrushing the vehicles black with galaxy scenes/dragons/falcons. It's a little cliche, but seems like it might be fun to airbrush.

| Actually, I am in agreement with them not matching up.
My thoughts are I would want something contrasting. My inital thoughts were the Sunblitz brotherhood. The Yellow/gold camo pattern is visually interesting and the red corona's would be nice. I had thought about it for my own kabal, however I already have gold and black so it would not look at all different.
But with your color scheme of the Purple and Teal, the contrasting Yellow and red would look brilliant, in my opinion. The details could be similar to what you have already done, but it would look completely different.
The camo pattern would not be very hard with an airbrush. Some masking tape in torn little pieces and just build the colors one on top of the other. Then seal and mask the whole thing to get your corona's.
Perhaps with a few minor tweaks you could still use your CWE. I have Iyanden for mine, so I get using the yellow as much as possible.

| Interesting thoughts. To be honest, I'll have plenty of time to ponder the color scheme while I tweak the list/buy models. I have a vacation coming up after my grad program ends Thursday, teaching starts back up early August. I probably won't start applying paint until late August. Couple of quick progress pics. I decided that my jetpack troops will have their feet repositioned to give a floating effect rather than the "I can float, but decided to pose flat-footed on this base" look. Pretty easy effect: score and cut feet off, clean the joint out. trim a little off of the foot at the ankle, glue into place, fill in gap with greenstuff. I realize that this is a very early pic, but I won't be filling the gaps until I have the full squad converted and the rest of the conversion kits arrive. I also threw a quicky in of the Baldesworn Retinue that I a am starting using Corsair, Dire Avengers, and Hellion parts. Power spears FTW! | |

| What exactly are you planning for the jetpack troops? Are they going to be scourges or swooping hawks? The thing with the feet sounds awesome, think we can get a closeup of that? Or better than that, step by step pics? I really want to get into converting some of my models, to make them more unique, but am kind of clueless as to where to start. | |

| I'm using the FW Corsair kit for the wing packs. I'll do a step by step guide for the foot modification. Pretty simple really if you have a guide. I might cut the legs to have them bend back also. I did that with my 3rd edition DE Warriors(pics on the first page of this project log) back in the day to get running poses. | |

| Thanks much! I'm sure it's probably simple enough, but when you're just starting something new (like converting) even the simplest things can be a daunting task. | |

| I like your start of converting Yriel - exactly how are you planning of making the rest of him? I have myself begun making an Autarch out of the prince, and it would be nice seeing what others makes out of him. Also, really impressive Hellion squad; they look seriously exceptional. Oh, and by the way - have you came up with a name for the kabal yet? | |

| It's like every time you update this thread I think to myself, "neat! I want to do something like that too," which is quickly followed by "but it's not my idea!"
The models are looking great. I can't wait to see you slap some paint on them.

| Perhaps he's just being very cunning and making us think that he doesn't want to steal the idea so that we think it's original when we see it done later? | |

| Imitation is the best form of flattery? I highly encourage stealing: it's the Dark Eldar way My grad program ends tomorrow, and I just found out that my favorite game store is having a tournament on Saturday! I haven't had a game down there in MONTHS with all of the thesis writing and other grad school shenanigans. 1500pts, and a great chance to debut the Baron and his buddies! I'm still figuring out the list, but will probably have to paint a model or two to make the list work. I plan on fielding combinations that I used to use in 5th along with a new trick or two to see how they work. Not really going competitive yet while I'm still feeling out the new mechanics. I'll post any pics of new stuff that I paint and will definitely try to take some full army shots at the tourny. (Though I do warn that the lighting in that store is the opposite of awesome for photography ) | |
